So I meant at one point or another, not necessarily at this moment, but from your response I deduce you don't regard Laszlo Papp's three golds as being enough... By the way, I'm always happy to read your contribution, that said, would you say Poland was ever put on the boxing map?

Papp by far. 3 gold is an amazing achievement. Over 300 wins in the amateur system if I'm not mistaken beating the best Soviets and Americans thrown at him. Wasnt allowed to turn pro until well past his prime and was undefeated until the government pulled the plug on him.

I think Papp had a HUGE advantage in the amateurs. Being government assisted, fighting in that system well into adulthood against inexperienced kids who were real amateurs in every sense of the word, that goes a long way, particularly in that era when most countries amateur programs were much more loosely developed and not designed to build the fighter up for competition but just determine who deserved to go and get them there. It was a lot less nurturing and supportive than the systems Papp fought in.

The best Hungarian fighter in history was 'Aussie' Joe.

Erdei was way better and accomplished much more than Bugner.

I respect your view; so although he fought for the U.K. do fans widely regard Bugner as a Hungarian heavyweght? Triple nationality.

Papp as an amateur put Hungary on the map, for sure.
