Hagler gave away the first four rounds in my opinion. Hagler didnt do anything.

And he was so slow after that. The old quick counterpunching was gone.

And to top it off, listen to his corner in the later rounds. Goody and Pat are saying 'doing good champ, keep it up. Do what you are doing"......its like they failed to realize the possible danger of losing this fight and what the ******ed judges may be witnessing.

They didnt think it MIGHT be close?:huh The media darling could be winning?

Hagler may or may not have lost that fight. But then again he lost it in so many ways. Gave Leonard everything he wanted pre-fight.

Then dicked around during it. Came on later but discovered he was aging and wasnt able to bring it. Wasnt aware he was losing his title cause the Petronelli's failed to make that point.

And to think he hoped Leonard would give him a rematch? leonard was NEVER going to go through that again under any circumstances.

Your boy got owned and pwnd. He retired over it.

Leonard won in so many ways:lol:

    Hagler.

I question most people's ability to score a fight and actually take in the subtleties that need to be seen if they scored it for Leonard.

I agree, a draw is a fair result. As a challenger you gotta a take away the title from the champion and Leonard has not done that.

It was not robbery as Leonard-Hearns II was. The fight was close. Hagler did more damage but it was obvious that his defense was deterioating as he got hit by a lot of light flurries.

I think I had it 115-113 Leonard, I have no arguments with anyone who scores it for Hagler however. In fact I'm going to rewatch it now, I haven't seen it in years.

Hagler won. I scored it many times and never changed my initial pick.
Fight was close though, could have gone either way.

A-****ing-men to that. I wonder how many serious boxing fans we lost after this fight who left the sport in disgust along with Hagler. The hype and bull**** was unbelievably thick, I had forgotten all the nonsense from Dundee, the announcers, and the crowd. Even Ray Leonard knew he got worked. He was just trying to save face, winning was an after thought. It was a fantastic con job by Leonard.

Not even factoring in all the running from Leonard (which is fine if you're boxing and scoring effectively, which Leonard wasn't doing nearly enough), and forward movement of Hagler, just on clean punches alone Hagler won that fight in a veritable landslide considering the general impression of the outcome. Just on actual scoring Hagler won that fight hands down, no question.

I scored it 116-112 Hagler, and that was giving Leonard credit for the bull**** that he pulled at the end. The only two rounds that Hagler clearly lost were the first two. From that point forward you could dissect every round with a scalpel and a magnifying glass and give them all to Hagler. No problems. It's embarrassing to watch that fight and think about the fraud that was perpetrated in the history books that night.

Your post made me curious so I will rewatch it, had it a draw the last time I checked it. I just thought that while applying the pressure, Hagler forgot about his defense and as a result got unnecessary hit by a lot of light flurries. Even if they are not hard punches, they count for judges. Biut Hagler did enough to retain his title as Leonard with his constant running did not take it away from the champion.

I had some earlier impressions that sound similiar to that. This was the first time I knuckled down and truly followed this fight second by second. Everything Hagler was doing, even when he was hurting Ray which he did at least 3 times, was forgettable. Everything that Leonard did was charismatic, full of life, and memorable. Even when he wasn't doing ****. If you know how to properly play the game of horse and wire round by round, and you know how far ahead to put each horse before they cross the wire as they go back and forth beating each other for the lead, it wouldn't be at all unreasonable to score this thing 118-110 Hagler. He purely outscored Leonard, busted him up, and demonstrated his superior technique, arsenal, and skillset to boot. It's easy to fall for Leonard's bull****, and hard to miss Hagler's clear tactical dominance. That latter part being if you know what you're looking at, I guess you could say. It doesn't matter if it's by a little bit or alot. Hagler won, he was robbed.

I gotta say...I've watched it a 100 times...mute on,mute of..don't matter...nevr changed my mind from the beginning...Hagler lost that fight. It was really close...the rounds 6-10 made it really close for Marvin...but he was still getting outpunched in most rounds...his achilles heal was letting Ray come back with those fluries...

Hell...you can hit a guy with 3-4 hard shots...do good damage...but if you let him get back and throw 7-8 unanswered shots..you gonna lose out...Fights are not scored for the guy who does the most damage...but for the guy who lands more...damaging or not...if that was the case,Chavez would have been leading on all scorecards going into the final round with Taylor in the 1st fight..

Even on the rounds Marvin had the upper hand..Ray still came back with something at spots...throwing a lot of leather...shoeshine or not.Granted most of them were bouncing off Marvin's head...but they still scoring shots..

IMHO...a prime Hagler would have stopped a prime Ray...just too much heat, chin, and workrate. But in this fight,Marvin just could'nt pull the trigger when he needed to...plus his corner kept feeding him bull****,telling him he's winning, when they should have **** his ass out for not working enough...

Up to this day...I have 115-113 for SRL.

Most definately, which is why Hagler won this fight, clearly. I'm not going to try and argue though, everyone is working off their own playbook with scoring. In a case like this fight it's right or wrong, but the people who make a case for Leonard get subjective and start quoting Gil Clancy and the Hagler/Leonard episode of Legendary Nights. Most people are going to be superficial about this, there's way too much commonly held mythology and general opinion floating around out there to actually wipe everything away and start with a fresh sheet of paper and a pencil. This is the kind of fight a bunch of guys who know nothing about boxing sitting around in a sauna have a debate about. You can bet each and everyone of them had their eyes peeled on Leonard the entire fight, they weren't even watching Hagler. Too busy watching the "show."
