the judges were honest - at least as far as we know. there is no evidence or proof of corruption. the point is that leonard made the bout close enough for them to exercise their subjective bias. If Hagler had won decisively they couldn't have.
:bowdown Terrible loss to end a magnificent career. Leonard admittedly threw flurries in the last 30 seconds to steal the round, they were show punches, like a kid hitting a man. Hagler landed the meaningful shots. Tettsuo, you cant possible compar Leonard's flashy performance aimed at working the sentimental factor to win the crowd and judges over to Cotto's willingness to trade in the pocket and land bruising combinations in the face of a relentless onslaught. Cotto threw his punches with knockout intentions on them and exploit Margarito's technical flaws while Leonard kept Hagler on the defensive by throwing endless pitty-pay punches and moving away. Its hard to counter a guy when hes throwing quick, soft combinations on you, you simply cant move your gloves without taking fire. Try it in sparring some time. The smartest thing to do is take his garbage and come back with power shots as he tires. Cotto on the other hand didn't do that, he waited for counter-punching opportunities and threw his shots with bad intentions, and enough time between them to allow Margarito to counter. Cotto fought like a pro to beat Margarito while Leonard fought like an amateur to out-point Hagler. Big difference.
