Who really won the first Kovalev vs Ward fight?

Blatant corruption. I don't see a case for Ward even getting to a draw in that fight. Kovalev clearly won and was robbed.

 

If Duva hadn't sold Kovalev out and put him in Ward's corrupt backyard despite being the champion, history would have been different.

Ward likely would have won the second fight even without the absurd stoppage the way it was going, but Kovalev also wouldn't have arrived in such a jaded condition if he hadn't been robbed the first time, so that fight would have a very different dynamic.

It was also Kovalev's fault for being overconfident of KO'ing Ward and not needing to worry about being robbed.
These EE's never learn though.

How many times has it happened now?
If you're champion, take the pay cut and have these types of fights in your own country.
Unless you're Fury, where the English judges will probably rob you though.

Kovalev won. Best win of the 2010s. Robbed him of his legacy. A true ATG fighter cheated out of his deserved legacy. Massive win in a historical context.

I don’t think it is thread worthy. Worst robbery I’ve seen as a fan. Taking the 0 was a legacy maker.

Kovelav and clearly. Ward knows full well he lost, he looked as shocked as anyone when the decision was read.

 

Kovalev 8-4 plus knockdown.

Utterly bald faced and shameless robbery.

 

8-4 Kovalev or 7-5 Kovalev at best for Ward. Plus a knockdown. Shameless robbery in a huge fight.
No disrespect to Ward whom showed a ton of heart and tried to make the fight competitive after getting shut out in the first 6 rounds. (Maybe you give him round 5) but fighting better than he did doesn’t mean he swept the last 6 rounds which is what the hometown judges gave him. They had too because of the knockdown he couldn’t even get a draw with a 6-6 score.

 

Agree 100% Kovalev was robbed of a legitimate win. He was also robbed in the rematch which was an even bigger robbery both Ward & his obviously near sighted accomplice ,Weekes, should have been investigated & Ward be DQ'd it was blatant

 

114-113 Kovalev in an easy fight to score could also be 115-112, ward has no case for a win. I found this to be a pretty bad decision

 

The thing with the rematch is that Ward landed tons of lowblow, before the "finals" one and before Kovalev gets hurt for real. And getting constantly punches in the nuts have it's effect. You will wear/tire quickly, etc, etc.

Main thing i don't like about Boxing and love about MMA. In MMA 99,99% even the small fouls are called, and you won't get away, even if you dominates the fight. Just like with Jon Jones and his only loses, via DQ, he dominated, but landed obviously illegal elbow and was DQ.

This is how it should work in any sport.
But Boxing with all the "A" side b.c. corruption is beyond saving.
It's a pitty, as GGG and Kovalev was literally robbed and their career ruined. And both of them have a legit cases for legendary careers.

 

Agree 100 %
