hahhahahhahaha it was hilarious people were saying he was gonna clean up cruiserweight, that he was gonna bring back the division to the life... (even though its the best division).. and then he gets schooled by some unknown african lol It has to be next to Seth Mitchell as the most embarassing deluded hype Ive ever heard
The hype was not as big as you make it out to be. And back in 2013, the division was not as strong as it is right now. The whole idea is that Chambers was always at a disadvantage at HW, so moving down in weight would able him to truly shine.
Mchunu was and still is a pretty damn good slicker at cruiserweight, I wouldn't say losing to him is embarrassing.
Chambers was never the same after that atomic left hook from Wlad in the 12th. He wasn't the same. And that's not joking or hating it's the truth
I remember plenty of people thinking Chambers was going to make some noise at Cruiser due to how slick he was at Heavy, and the fact that hardly anyone knew who Mchunu was or had ever seen him fight. I don't think anyone expected him to get dominated the way he was. That was the really embarrassing part.
With 20-20 hindsight we now know how good and awkward a boxer Mchunu is and how hard it is to outpoint him. Also Cruiser is totally hot right now, and Chambers hasn't beaten anyone of note after Rossy and was probably on the slide since the Wlad KO loss.
It's a good practice to remember the hype (or skepticism) we have for certain fighters and then see how it turned out. We can use this type of analysis to lower (or increase) our expectations for the next fighter making a change in weightclass.
I remember doubting Eddie's chances at cruiser Everyone said well his power will be more of a factor but his style wasn't based on it. I kept saying his biggest asset, speed, was not going to be as big an advantage as it was at heavyweight Big respect to Eddie, he fought some good fighters and really earned his shot at wlad
