What I meant is that these "do-gooders" are not doing it for free. Not that Mike is setting this stuff up.
Agree they’re not doing it for free. Neither would you or me. But Mike surrounded himself with people he considered friends. After three years in prison he must have learned something. He was about 26. He only got away with his public trash (make that downright obscene) talk because he was so used to getting his own way. In the ring Don’s influence was there.
I am a huge Tyson fan, his fighting style was not one to allow for a long career but it is also a fact that once he left Rooney he stopped using the D Mato pee ka boo style properly and he just relied on his power, neglected his defence meaning he got easier to hit. That said, he is 100% responsible for his own decline, he made all the choices he did inside and outside the ring. I have seen in certain situations where the courts deem you incapable of managing your own life, affairs and order a conservator, accountant to put you on a leash ie you are just getting a certain allowance and that's it. You have to spend a certain amount of hours in the gym, you can meet this, that person but not this person and that also for a certain amount of time. That is honestly what he needed I am surprised no one even thought about trying this
Don King. AND the hangers on. I remember when Mike beat Berbick. Had a huggathon against Smith. Not Mike’s fault. I watched all his fights and couldn’t imagine anyone beating him. Shocked as **** when Douglas beat him. But you can only blame yourself. Especially all the opportunities Mike had. At one point he was not only the most famous but also popular sportsman in the world. Around 1987. Not many people get that opportunity. Only Mike’s fault in the end.
One thing i dont understand is that in the bruno fight after spinks his whole style changed and his feet were moving like they were in concrete, how could a fighter justchanged their style 8 months after leaving a trainer?
Love Tyson is the epitome of a legend, think don king had a lot to do with his down fall. Apparently had the main shair of the fight money. Think that turned him a bit bitter, but Mike had a hard life before boxing. Unfortunately we all have to be accountable for are actions so he's not blameless. Good to see him looking in better shape these days. Loved his ruthless style in his early days proper
His new trainers were scared to tell Mike what time he had to be at the gym. All pretence. I’m the chief corner man but too **** scared to tell Mike anything . 1 - He wouldn’t listen anyway. 2. - His cornermen were afraid of getting fired in case Mike got upset/angry. 3 - They were in it for the glory and money they weren’t getting from any other boxer/manager/promoter.
Very simple, Rooney was a hard task master and would not tolerate any cutting corners in the gym. He would also shout and bark instructions 24/7 ie move your feet, move your head, body shots, don't go looking for one punch, he would shout out numbers. Without that Tyson did what he wanted and the results showed. He just went into fights hoping to rely on his power and go home quickly. The last proper fight where he put in a great performance which went the distance was the Tony Tucker fight.
Tyson ruined Tyson, other factors and folk had impact on that ruination of course. Making bad life choices as a youth are generally forgiven /overlooked as long as you get your act together, however once a adult you take personal responsibility for your life, you take the praise and kudos for your positives and the resulting fallout/criticism of your negatives. If Tyson (which he isn't) was seeking sympathy then as we were told by our recruit training team when things got tough, if you are seeking sympathy you will find it in the dictionary between sh*t and syphilis.
