It does seem that boxing is on the upswing. Great to see. Let's hope it continues to rise.

Yea, it sure is appealing to us, the boxing fans but it would be even better if it appealed to fans of other sports.

Boxing is far from dead, look at the PPV receipts from the Oscar/Mayweather fight, they were record breaking. The only division that isnt getting no love is heavyweight division, but hopefully that will change in the future. Its funny remember back in the day when the average guy on the street knew who was the heavyweight champ, now most couldnt name one if they tried.

Plenty of big fights is what we need. Even here is Oz I have noticed more people going to the club to watch the fights on the big screen. The club I went to for the Calzaghe v Kessler fight saw all the seating in the Sports Bar (a large club btw) full. And this was with no Aussies fighting. Good to see people showing up to support boxing.

    Far from dead.

The great match ups are extending to 2008.

We got Rafa Marquez vs Izzy Vazquez, JMM vs Pac II to look forward to, DLH will be facing one of the top welterweights (we think), Calzaghe vs B-Hop, etc.

As long as exciting fighters like Cotto, Pac, Shane, Pavlik etc are at or near the top boxing will survive. . . its boring boxers like Hops, Casamayor and FMJ that try to kill the sports marketability.

Whoever says "boxing is dead" or "boxing is dying," especially the sports reporters, don't know what their talking about. It's a GREAT time to be a boxing fan, and even if you're not a boxing fan, it's a great time to become one.

This was a great year indeed, and we're not even done yet. I think boxing really needed people to say it's dead or dying, thanks to that it got its **** together.

I would take it one step further, and say that boxing is now kicking the **** out of MMA.

Look at MMA this year, nearly every big name champ was upset. The lighweight champ which was proposed to take on Floyd was busted for using steroids. Dana has just let his best heavy (Couture) get away, and he has also failed to sign the best heavy in the world (Fedor) in addition to insulting him.

MMA to this outside observer is a mess right now. One of the few bright spots is Anderson Silva. Crocop has taken a ****, Liddel has lost a few fights and now looks old, Sherk is a roid head, and the best two heavies want nothing to do with the biggest and best organization, the UFC. On top of that, Dana White is not exactly Mr. PR man.:-(
