I think Amir Mansour is one of the most entertaining heavyweight fighters among those who are currently active. He has enourmous power and fights in a Tyson/Tua-ish style with explosive blows and such. However he's very poorly trained and managed. The dude doesn't improve on the defensive end and that's what prevents him from being a top level fighter. He only lost 1 fight in his entire career(21-1) and that was to Cunningham by PTS, a fight he knocked down Cunningham, that is. On the managing side, he's even worse. The dude can't get fights or venues. He's being a loud mouth on Twitter and interviews, calling out on Tyson Fury and more recently Wilder to fight him. I think he can be a belt contender if he's trained and managed well. So question is, who can he fight next? My suggestions could be Antonio Tarver Shannon Briggs Eddie Chambers Tony Thompson Lucas Browne Charles Martin any thoughts?
Him vs Lucas Browne would be a crazy fight. I want to see that one The briggs fight would be pretty funny. I want that one as well Chambers and Thompson school him I'm thinking though
He could lose some of the fights I suggested, but I specifically chose this fighters as they all need a good win for a high profile fight, and so does Mansour, so it will be mutually beneficial.
Tony Thompson vs Amir Mansour. That could be a fight to show where mansour is really heading, Thompson gives everyone trouble for the first few rounds.
He should fight Stiverne. If he wins by KO, he has a strong argument for a fight against Wilder. Thats important, because he has not much time left.
How come you guys think any fight can be arranged straight away? Briggs is too busy chasing Klitschko, and he won't fight any decent opponent. Chambers? He became UK based boxer who is obsessed with getting paid properly. Thompson? He's waiting to fight Solis. He could fight Mansour afterwards, but the money should be right. Lucas Browne? I would love to see that fight but I think Browne is more looking for a title shot, or a big fight with someone like Fury, and he has all the reasons to count on it without taking dangerous and unpayed fights like Mansour. Chales Martin? Just dont see him taking this step.
Perez. Jennings after Wlad destroys him. Arreola if he could be lured out for a shot on NBC. Those guys probably would take the fight, at least. Until he lands a fight of this magnitude, Mansour should keep fighting the best journeymen he can.
He has a lot of options. I definitely liked his fight against Cunningham. I think Arreola, Jennings, Perez/Povetkin loser, and Stiverne would all be very good opponents for his next fight.
I have ranked the opportunities, this is what I came up with. 1) Antonio Tarver: Needs a fight like this, no scheduled opponent, similar situation to Mansour in terms of managing, good ranking boost opportunity 2) Lucas Browne: Needs a fight like this, can't get a Fury/Wilder/Wlad level fight yet, can make a US debut, good ranking boost opportunity 3) Eddie Chambers: Needs a fight like this, no scheduled opponent, good ranking boost opportunity 4) Dereck Chisora: Needs a fight like this, no scheduled opponent, opportunity to re-establish career after Fury loss, would be a solid fight 5) Malik Scott: Needs a fight like this, no scheduled opponent, good ranking boost opportunity 6) Charles Martin: Needs a fight like this, no scheduled opponent, plays safe so far so not sure he will take this fight, low chance of happening 7) Tony Thompson: Has a scheduled fight, can be considered for late 2015 8 ) Shannon Briggs: will try to get a Wlad fight for a long time while doing keep busy fights, low chance of happening
