I actually think team Canelo are in a tough spot in terms of opponent selection. Canelo is a gravy train, a gravy train that is a somewhat limited fighter that relies heavily on being the stronger man in the ring. When moving up to 160, do you really want a softer touch to get used to the weight, and risk 'losing it all' against a non star fighter? Or go right after the best, and should he lose he can fall back on that he lost to a dangerous opponent and one that's a big name themselves. If I was team Canelo I would obviously go after Cotto, I think that's the obvious first choice. Second choice is tough, as much as people like to say middleweight is weak... the truth is its second tier guys (ndam, Lemieux, quillan, Lee, Murray) and third tier (eubank, bjs, Monroe) all pose a very real threat to Canelo.... threats Im not sure smart money takes for a first fight. So idk.... like I said I think team Canelo needs to go all in for a Cotto fight, as the other options start going pretty far into the high risk territory. just imo
On further thinking Id go like this 1st choice - Cotto, obviously 2nd choice - Rosado - perfect middleweight debut opponent. And they would have no problem signing Rosado for a big fight like that. A fight Canelo would be the rightful favorite, get used to the weight and enter the division against a known opponent. I suppose the 3rd choice maybe Id go Geale.... Cotto, Rosado, Geale, would be my main focuses if I was team Canelo, for the first fight at the weight.
