Imo it should be a tune up level opponent. Someone beatable & give him rounds.

Imo his first fight in the 154lb division shouldn't be hard and it will allow him to ease in the division while getting his body & tested without threat.

if he does well or dominates, then he should face a contender and then the top 3 of either Hurd, Lara or Charlo.

So who should be his first opponent? a soft touch? contender? or a champ?

If I was Brook's manager, my opponent shortlist for a first opponent in 154 division would be either Charles Hatley, Tony Harrison or Antonio Margarito.

The word on the street is Sam Eggington.

I lose a certain amount of interest in Kell as a JMW, by dint of the fact that I've always viewed him as a pure welterweight (his potential to establish kingship there was undermined by longterm poor management/matchmaking and lax discipline between fights).

He's bound to be on the downside of his prime now, to boot, and all I can see for him as a JMW is a tame route to becoming a two-weight titlist (a.k.a. the Beefy route) or else a couple of warm-ups before falling to one of the better operators who'll outsize him and/or be too fresh.

Kamegai would be a decent start.

should just feed his soul to Jermell Charlo and get it over and done with. Brook is finished.

Based on what? Losing to the Number 1 Middleweight in the world, followed by losing to what most people perceive to be the Number 1 Welterweight in the world? God, I'm glad guys like you weren't around advising the Louis' or Robinson's of the world back in the day.

Its not the losses themselves, its not even the physical toll (which in itself is probably hard enough to overcome). Its the emotional toll those fights have taken on him. His soul was hurt worse by the Spence defeat than any damage a punch could do.

I'd like to be proven wrong, I find Kell a really entertaining fighter. But I dont see him reaching the peaks he hit earlier in his career, especially not at a higher even more dangerous weight division. A money fight against Khan and a shot at Liam Smith is probably the best he can hope for.

Though I wouldn't use his terms, I see what the fellow is saying to an extent. It's hard to imagine Brook getting significant work done. His last two fights have been damaging, despite creditable performances, and now he's going up against bigger, fresher guys much less prone to breaking up than he is. Psychological baggage can be turned into fight-winning experience, but that depends on how much interest and desire remains, factors which may also be a problem in Brook's case.

I just think his potential has been largely wasted, and I don't see reasons to expect much from him at 154. If he can surprise me, I'm all for it and will happily admit I was wrong.

I reckon someone like Kamegai for his second fight after his last two fights Brook needs a confidence boosting KO win and Eggington fits that bill.

The three guys you listed would all beat Brook. Brook will be matched softly at 154, just as he was at 147, before he fought Porter and Spence. Maybe a guy like Austin Trout they would go after. That might be too much though. I'm not sure what some of you saw in Brook. He was never all that great in my opinion.

I'd like to see Brook vs Margarito. Margarito may be finished but he's a name and that fight could make money in England imo. and plus Brook would beat him.

That's making quite an assumption though, no one but Kell, maybe his family, trainers or psychiatrist know the extent of mental damage those matches inflicted upon him, you never know, maybe he sees it the way I see it, oh well, lost to the two best guys, but did well in both fights before being stopped because of eye damage, not legit KTFO. The human mind can do funny things like that, we're good at brushing things away, compartmentalizing, making excuses, valid or not. He may not have taken the losses nearly as bad as many think he has. Also he has the weight cutting as an excuse with the Spence match, valid or not, its probably not a great idea to move back down 13 pounds to take on a relentless big puncher when your stamina may be effected, and coming off of a terrible eye injury. As far as the eyes go, it was each eye, so the GGG bashed one held up against Spence, who says they both won't hold up the next time out. Quite frankly I was ready to write off Cotto after the Margarito and Pacquiao losses, but since then he's made quite the comeback, in spite of the fact that its been a carefully managed and at times cherry picked comeback. Brook can possibly do the same.
