Im not really a fan but i try to play it fair to everyone and ive come to realize that he came at the worse time hes to young for the older guys ( roy & bhop ) but to old for the young guys (jt, dawson, pavlik) he could never get a career defining victory so he might as well just retire with his undefeated record.. or if he wants to fight dawson let him beat a big name fighter thats not named antonio tarver
I disagree. He was in his early 30's when Roy was in his prime. All he had to do was step up and get a number one ranking with one of the three orgs and he would have got his shot. Joe chose to play it safe though and protect that "0".
It was unlucky that he didnt get the fight thanks to Joes injuries but just think if Calzgahe hadnt suffered an injury and the fight went ahead, Glen would have never got his shot at Roy jones, a win which he has built the money fights of his career on...swings and roundabouts. For the record Joe is twice the boxer/fighter Glen Johnson is...:good
im not talking about the past though im talking about now.... when roy was prime joe wasnt ready for him... no matter how you slice it.... now he is just stuck in the middle
Joes injuries? At least one of the times he cited personal problems did he not? For the record. You making a simple statement isn't conducive to me respecting your opinion.:good
But he didn't "do it", he did not perform well and register a convincing and comprehensive defeat of Hopkins. He won an SD. An SD that most non-Calzaghe fans think was either (a) an SD win which was correct but which was predicated on workrate alone against a more skilled opponent, or (b) the wrong decision, a loss. Of course Calzaghe would both be given far far more credit and would improve his legacy substantially were he to rematch Hopkins and actually beat him beyond all doubt with a dominant/very effective performance. (ps: he is incapable of achieving this though, because he doesn't have the necessary skills to penetrate Hopkins's defence, and what's more, he knows it, hence a rematch being a non-issue).
So you think Joe is a better fighter now than he was five years ago? Tell me what skills you feel he has added to his repertoire that makes that so.
Not necessarily, fighters bloom at different ages, JC isnt too far off RJJ agewise but they peaked at different times. You could say that BHOP is too old to even be in a ring, but he taught one of the rising stars a boxing lesson not so long ago. IMO JC wasn't ready to fight RJJ seven years ago, but if RJJ was in his prime now I don't think JC would avoid him. He took on Kessler, who is probably going to dominate SM for the next few years if he gets the fights. If he was American, I think JC would command a lot more respect over there.
Yeah but its funny how people were predicting Lacy to beat him up, and after that fight suddenly everyone in America always thought that Lacy sucked and that JC's victory didnt mean as much. It's easy for people easy to call him an opportunist after the fight, right?
