For one, Cotto vs. Gomez is to setuo Cotto (when he wins) vs. the Winner od Margarito - Cintron. For another, Cotto was fought WAAY more then Mayweather has, so he's allowe easier touches between his tough fights. No? Last, none of you Mayweather fans think Cotto is on Floyd's level...so don't hold him uop to Floyd's standard. You're smart Scar. Too smart to make a post as such.
Hey there Lance, long time man. How's it going? Well I wasn't really looking to start a "whine fest" to be honest, was just wondering. Now as I browsed another website I see that it is infact official that those guys are set to fight, I'm quite far behind when it comes to boxing due to a lot of stuff so excuse any "noobness" you are set to witness and deal with but catching up quick. I'm not really trying to complain about Cotto and to be honest I do consider Cotto on Mayweather's level, I believe that he can give Mayweather a really tough fight and for that he is on his level in my eyes and I sure as hell won't take that fight lightly or as an "easy one" for Mayweather if it's ever officially on so yes I do consider him on that level, maybe not 100% but his will and ability to keep coming forward despite not having the greatest chin(but knows how to survive real well) puts him there. As far as activity, you're totally right about it and I can't really complain, as long as he remains active then no one should complain, my post was directed at the guys(not necessarily Cotto fans, as you know) that keep bashing on Mayweather for taking "easy fights" as they consider them, nothing else. This might be a decent "stay active" fight but don't you agree that it's a bit TOO easy?
I don't think it'll be too easy at all. I mean, from merely a resume level, sure, Cotto is light years ahead of Gomez. But poardon the cliche', resume's dont win fights. Gomez is a tough fighter. We know he can take a punch. And his skill level isn't bad at all. I think he has the making of a good TV fighter (action and drama), but being a spoiler isn't out of the question. Imagine if it was Gomez who fought Cintron rather then Feliciano. I might be inclined to pick Gomez over Cintron, who it seems will become more of a getekeeper to the top contenders then a World Champ. Personally, I like this bout. IF it's short, I expect it to have some good action. And I won't lie, something about Gomez worries me a bit. He's not as bad as most think he is. And I reckon it's because one trip to boxrec will tell those that NEED boxrec he's not fought anyone great. ANyway, good to have you back. If I am going to argue with Mayweather fans, I prefer them to be knowledgable rather then newbs like Gonzo, who's annoying in the sense a mosquito bite is, or will make and live by their own assumption of situations like Eze. Welcome back.:thumbsup
Thanks man, always nice to see you around as well. :good Well, can't really disagree with you since the fight IS exciting after all and the I admit that I will be looking forward to it because it pretty much guarantees action there with awesome exchanges. I just can't see Gomez lasting long because he just hasn't been in there with someone like Cotto, not even close, as a matter of fact(judging by Boxrec, I admit) he hasn't had a 12 rounder ever before and his first one will be against someone as brutal as Cotto so I expect a massacre here judging by experience. I have seen Gomez' fight with Gatti and a few others, including his last fight with Tackie. The guy is decent at best and doesn't carry enough power to trouble Cotto but you never know, in boxing there is always a chance for that big punch to land and all predictions go out the window. But as you said, if this is a quick "Stay active" fight to set-up a Margarito fight next then all complaints about it(at least from me) are out the window since I'd rather see him active than do nothing till then and the fight guarantees excitement so there is absolutely nothing to complain about anymore. Hope to have more discussions with you in the future man, you take care and have an awesome weekend! :good
any other 147 current title holder, or mosley again. Delahoya/Cotto would be rewarding for the fans as well, especially cotto fans
Cotto should fight Margarito then Clottey and finally Cintron I would leave Williams for PBF, and if I were PBF I would avoid Williams. Its not that Will is anything special, its just that he has an 84 inch reach throws jabs and punches all night long. He is 6 ft 1 and well thats just too much of an advantage. He will simply pitty pat his way to decisions against all comers at Welter he needs to move his sorry ass up to Middle and Jr Middle, He wins but in boring fashion and I dont get excited watching a guy not commit to about a thousand punches a fight. At least Thomas Hearns would blast you out and was exciting to watch!Williams so far, I just want him out of the picture so we can get the real comp fights for Mayweather, Cotto and the rest. This guy with just a jab and height and reach on his bike with no need to engage can spar for 12 and take all the belts . Hopefully Im terribly wrong we will see on Saturday I hope Quintana puts a dent in my theory.
im going to state the obvious with mayweather... see mayweather would never duck a fighter because he is like a *****... the money has to bee right other wise he does not perform... but since mayweather decided to be that money ***** and rematch with de la hoya and cotto decided to (for whatever known reason) fight gomez i think his next opponent should be williams
