Many people here thought he would outbox Margo and win the fight, in fact "many people" were picking Cotto by stoppage, I never understood that, not that I thought it was impossible but I never dared state something like that. You also ask what better way to prove he is the same fighter he was by fighter Kirkland or Williams, well I'll say a better way is fighting Shane Mosely some one he already beat, or Baldomir to see how well he performs. Beating Williams in his first fight back would be much more impressive, but not worth the risk in my very humble opinion. Kirkland is a SWW and he should worry about fighting people there unless he is willing to go down to 147lbs.
You agreed with a poster who said he was certain that Cotto would beat Williams. If it's a certainty, why not make the fight? Who cares if it's a comeback fight? I don't know how you could say Cotto beating Williams is a certainty and then turn around and say the fight is too risky. Arum is the one who mentioned Kirkland as a possible opponent for Cotto. Let's see how serious he was when he said that.
Well, basically I do belive Cotto can beat Paul Williams, and if that's the fight that happens next, I wont be affected at all. But I guess I haven't made my self clear so let me give it another try. I think that for the fans and for Miguel himself his next fight should be one that is more winnable than the Paul Williams fight since a fight with Paul Williams would need to be made in a state were Miguel Cotto is 100% confident in himself and his ability to fight the elite of the division and deliver his best. Also, (and this is where I think you misinterpreted my opinion) if Miguel is somehow affected by the Margarito fight and is not the same fighter he was (and not because he improved) it would be better to see it against someone who Cotto would still have a chance of winning even if he's not really at his best. Another thing is, that it would just be horroble to rush Miguel into big fights that ask too much from him too soon and not be able to see and enjoy his true potential. The best example that comes to mind is Vargas, although he had to deal with injuries and other stuff, i think the beatings he took also took a lot from him and it was us the fans who missed out on such a great talent. EDIT: Also read my previous posts (which are not edited) and you will see that not once i contradict myself, in both posts I stated that I tought Cotto would beat Williams but I wouldn't advice it for the first fight with my reasons being explained above.
