Dalton Smith stopped Sam Maxwell with a beautiful KO this summer, however in the process he got 2 cuts on his face which sidelined him for the rest of the year. Smith has stated on multiple occasions that he wants the European title which is currently held by Adam Azim. It seems like Azim will be defending his belt against Enock Poulsen in February 2024 and then vacating afterwards (if he wins) and the next mandatory is no one other than Dalton Smith. The most likely scenario is that Dalton has one fight early next year, and then fights for the EBU title around summer. What do you guys think are the most realistic options for these 2 fights?

A few weeks ago, Eddie Hearn stated in an interview that they sent an offer to Harlem Eubank to face Smith early next year however that has a small chance of happening since Eubank's moving up to welterweight.

I think Smith will most likely face Robbie Davies Jr early next year (which would also allow him to keep his british title) and then around summer his opponent for the EBU title will most likely be someone like Sean Mccomb (who is actually facing Sam Maxwell himself in the next few weeks.)

What do you guys think? I would personally like to see him face the winner of Walid Ouizza/Jon Fernandez who are set to fight for the EBU silver. Dalton Smith vs Jon Fernandez would be an amazing fight stylistically and they both have good knockout power.

I'd back Dalton to beat Azim. Though I don't think either will win a world title.

Azim has chin problems. I heard today that Paddy Donovan knocked down Azim twice in sparring. And that swarthy Ukrainian featherfist wobbled Azim too.

Lol do you have reading comprehension issues?

Paddy Donovan didn't drop Azim in sparring, he just beat english level Danny Ball, relax

I'd favour Dalton to beat Azim defo.

Azim will get better as he gets more experience but his defence could be better, he's got reasonably fast feet which is definitely a good thing to have but if he ever comes across a really good pressure fighter or someone with reach on him with just average power then I think his chin will crack.

There seems to be a rumour going about, regarding his chin. And if it's true, which I may be inclined to believe, then that may be the thing that makes him a lot of money but not a great fighter.
Would love to see him in with any euro lvl fighter. Enock Poulson ain't bad tbh but he hasn't got much pop. And he's been out a bit with an injury.
I once spoke to someone who sparred him quite a few times when he was getting ready for his EBU and he also knows Dalton. he said Dalton would probably stop Poulson
Azim will be matched carefully but pushed too quickly, at some point he will have to fight a real threat and it'll be a case of how much experience he's absorbed at that time to get him through it.
A bit like they did with Yarde.
    And it's fair enough imo

Tbh I think defense is one of his best qualities but because his last opponent didn't have great punching power, he kind of disrespected him and didn't mind taking a few shots and even then he barely got hit.

As for these rumours about his chin, what are they founded on because I haven't found any of them to be true in fact the only rumours I heard was that he gave Joe Cordina and Conor Benn (when he was on PEDs) really good work in sparring.

Also Poulsen is a euro level fighter, he has a really good amateur record and is undefeated as a pro having beat Petitjean himself. The only reason he had to vacate is because he fell ill a few weeks before having to fight his mandatory.

I don't think Dalton is as good as people are making him out to be, he will do very well at european level imo but will struggle at world level because he's not active enough. He fights extremely patiently and looks for that one big shot, but I see Azim and a lot of people outpointing him by outworking him.

Anyways, my post wasn't supposed to be about Azim but about who Dalton Smith will be facing next. Robbie Davies Jr, Sean Mccomb and/or Darragh Foley would be my best guesses. But I would love to see him face Jon Fernandez for the EBU title as they're both big punchers

Not fights that would probably happen bit I'd like to see him in there maybe with ohara Davies or that type of calibre.
I agree that Smith beats Adam Azim too I feel like he has more about him in a tense 12 round fight.
You could also get him maybe an old war horse from the lightweights bit like what ohara Davies is doing this weekend in ismael barrosso
Loads of good matchups for Dalton Smith.

Golden Boy’s plan is for Ohara to either get upgraded to full champion or beat Romero for the belt in a few months and then him fight Ryan Garcia.

I’d like to see Dalton Smith fight someone like Robbie Davies Jr or even Lewis Ritson. Maybe match him with Sandor Martin 1 or 2 fights after.

Sandor Martin in two fights time is interesting. Probably not great matchmaking as its a tough fight against a guy no one knows outside of purists.
Y3s I hear that about Davies. Quite interesting him against romero

Sandor Martin would beat Smith comfortably even in a couple of fights. Very underrated fighter. People forget that he beat Teofimo Lopez. Basically the Spanish version of Jack Catterall.

2 fights after his next one is probably 15-18 months away. Dalton will be 28 and should be approaching that level by then.

The Lopez fight was close. Could have gone either way but I thought Lopez edged it.

Wow a lot of people here think Dalton Smith beats Azim.... I personally don't think he throws enough punches and will get outworked by Azim. Hes always looking for that one big shot and that will be Dalton's biggest downfall as a fighter. And if he couldn't find that one shot against Billy Allington then idk if he finds it against world level opposition.

Also Sandor Martin absolutely toys with Smith. Easy UD

Poulsen doesn't have a 'really good amateur record' what the hell are you talking about lol. I follow amateur boxing and I'd never even heard of him in the amateurs.

and he'd toy with your boy Adam as well

He won 68 out of his 87 amateur bouts, I would consider that to be a good amateur. Just cause you don't know him doesn't mean it isnt true lol

Also you're right he would probably beat Azim too. Sandor Martin is very very underrated and I thought he beat Teo

Have fun making a new account

I only consider a 'good amateur' to have done things like medalled at the main tournaments like the Olympics, World championships, Europeans, or at least qualified for the Olympics. Poulson never did nothing like that, looking at his record every decent fighter he fought he lost to.

You clearly have lower standards than me.

    @Boris Wang
I understand why you have low standards considering South Asian males record in boxing is
only 1 single world champ ever (in a sport of 17 weightclasses and 4 belts per weight)
1 single European champion ever ( just this weekend)
    0 british champs
in the amateurs 0 Olympic gold medalists ever, 0 world championship gold medalists ever, etc. etc.

You literally couldn't be any worse at boxing.
