Who should David Haye fight next at heavyweight?

Still no sign of who the Hayemaker will be fighting in November but the time to announce the opponent can not be too far away now. David claims to want a top 10 ranked opponent and someone who will give him a credible fight and that the fans would like to see him up against. The list of names is not too great so what are your thoughts on the situation and do you expect to be disapointed or excited and do you think he should take a learner fight or jump straight in with the serious threats?

The list of opponents to pick from is not too big for various reasons.

    1) Vladmir Virchis and Juan Carlos Gomez are set to meet in an eliminator. WBC 1, WBO 6 and WBC 2 respectivly.

    2) Oleg Maskaev is set to face Robert Hawkins. WBC 6, IBF 6.

    3) Kali Meehan has a fight soon in Germany. WBC 9, WBA 3, IBF 11, WBO 13.

    4) Hasim Rahman ****ed up against Toney and will probably fight a rematch. IBF 4.

    5) Kevin Johnson fights Bruce Seldon soon and is a non puncher.
    WBA 7.

    6) Eddie Chambers is probably still on the build up after his loss to Povetkin. IBF 8.

    7) Alexander Dimitrenko offers nothing to the American market where Haye wants to fight. WBC 3, WBA 5, IBF 3, WBO 2.

    8) Brian Minto has a fight set up and is not a well respected fighter. WBO 11, IBF 15.

    9) Shannon Briggs is no where to be seen in the rankings.

    10) Shane Cameron is still only used to fighting guys in the outback so cannot be a considered opponent. IBF 15, WBO 8.

So I guess we are left with a short list of possible opponents. Currently I would name amongst them, in no order.

    1) Andrew Golota. WBC 7, WBA 6. 44 (33) - 6 (3) - 1. Golota has a fight open for November but no named opponent yet. Decent run of 3 wins over Jeremy Bates KO, Kevin McBride KO and Mike Mollo UD. I like the look of this fight, Golota has a good name and would tell us about Haye at Heavyweight.

    2) Chris Arreola. WBC 4, WBA 11, IBF 4. 24 (21) - 0 - 0. Chris has a fight set up for November but no oppnent named yet. Chris also wants to test himself and get a title shot soon so will be looking for a good opponent. Probably the best American heavy and beat decent Chazz Witherspoon recently. Another good fight.

    3) Travis Walker. WBC 10, IBF 15. 27 (21) - 1 - 0. Travis seems to be an heavy handed American with no fights lined up. Not a glamour name but maybe an ok test for Haye to step up to heavy with.

    4) Serguei Liakhovic. WBA 8. 23 (14) - 3 - 0. Former world champion but on a losing streak. The guy has been based in America for quite some time. 6' 4" so we will get to see Haye vs a guy of similar height.

    5) JD Chapman. WBC 13, WBA 9. 29 (26) - 0 - 0. JD is a big punching heavy who is well rated. His nationality, Ko statistic and ratings make him a good opponent for Haye to test himself against.

    6) Carl Davis Drummond. WBC 14, WBA 10. 26 (20) - 0 - 0. Another well rated and American fighter. Carl has good power but is pretty much untested at world level.

    7) Sultan Ibragimov. IBF 5. 22 (17) - 1 - 0. Recent loser to Wlad in a really bad fight. Haye may want to show the world that he can do a far better job than Wlad and show that he can be entertaing in doing so. Sultan is a pretty good fighter and a former champ.

    8) Tony Thompson. IBF 9. 31 (19) - 2 - 0. Tony looked awful against the huge monster Wlad so may want to gain himself some pride by jumping in with Haye. Haye may want to fight Thompson for the same reason he would want to fight Sultan. Thompson is crude but would tell us a great deal about Haye at heavy.

    9) Monte Barret. WBO 9. 34 (20) - 6 - 0. I only mention him because he mentioned himself and he has found a place in the rankings. This fight looks a no go but he has kinda put his name in the picture above better well placed Americans. Having said that it may be a good fight, Monte has an history or derailing heavy weaight prospects.

    10) Danny Williams. Won his eliminator against McDermott so must be in line for a woeld title shot. Can not seem to find him in a top 10 though :think .

I wouldn't mind Golota, Ibragimov or Arreola. Guys like Chapman and Drummond aren't big enough names and people will say they had padded up records if Haye beats em.

I would actually like to see him face Tony the 'Tiger' Thompson. The reason being, I see it as being a relatively early TKO victory, resulting in the inevitable comparisons with the dire Klitschko bout. This would increase the chances of the Haye-Klitschko fight, and also give David the opportunity to see how he handles a 'big man'.

    Yep.

Thompson would be a logical choice for these reasons. He's also been talking some junk, so it would get some hype.

Not a dangerous puncher either, so he's unlikely to compromise any big plans

I think his original plan of Rahman is fine. Just fight someone worthy soon, that's what the fans want to see.

anyone know Friday's last name? anyone know Friday's last name? :yep

Forget it though. Your man has too good of chin with pretty heavy hands despite a questionable workrate. They want a soft touch with name recognition.

The best available opponents for the Hayematrix would be:
Toney, Thompson, Arreola, Iggy, Chambers. Of those my first choice would be Toney. He has an iron chin and could land his counter left hand at will. If that bum Fragomeni could land combinations on Haye, Toney certainly will have ample chance.

If Haye's so great, he should have no problem fighting one of "dem bums" i mentioned.

He's trying to cherrypick a name, Rahman, who is completely shot. Looking for the path of least resistance to Wlad.

I RECKON the Hayematrix's #1 delusional fanboy, Mr. Bunce, wants to see the Rahman fight get made :D

...and I expect Mr. Bunce to accept my lifetime ban bet if Wlad-Haye ever comes off :yep :yep :yep

i've always thought golota. but i also like the idea of haye taking out thompson more impressively (not hard) than wlad.

Haye should fight Enzo Maccarenelli next to clear up just who is the best crusierweight in the world

in the first fight Enzo made a few mistakes and put his chin in the air

    and Haye got lucky

in the rematch we could see a different more competitive fight
