Who should Floyd have fought?

my question to though who feel Mayweather has no chance to be place among some of the upper echelon greats, say he surprises us all and goes for a sweep of all the undisputed/lineal champs from light welter to middle/jr middle in his remaining fights how what effect would that have on where you place him.

right now that would look something like.
Mathysse/Garcia
Bradley/Marquez/Pacquiao?
Alvarez/Alvarez-Cotto II
Martinez/GGG

 

Floyd called out Casamayor several times at I believe 130 or 135, that fight couldn't materialize.

He called out a prime Mosley who had no interest in fighting Floyd at the time- dental issues came into play I believe.

Would've loved to seen him fight Kosta, but they fought on different networks and Floyd campaigned too long at the lower weights while Kosta was in his prime at 140. That woud've been a helluva fight.

And Top Rank had zero interest putting Cotto in the ring with Floyd, Arum specifically said in an interview about the possibility of a matchup that the undefeated Cotto was "too green." Once Cotto got out of that promotion, he was able to get the fight.

Really the only 3 large fights Floyd didn't have were at WW against Pacman, Margarito and Paul Williams. Paul though had very little marketability behind him and only started getting recognition as a top notch fighter once he beat Margs. At that time, Floyd was in semi-retirement mode.

Would've loved to seen him face everyone, but when you're the P4P king, you have to take on guys with some hype/marketability behind them. It's not just all about how good the opposition is, there's a lot more factors that go into obtaining a fight with Floyd.

Pacquiao is the only one IMO. And that is still a possiblilty believe it or not. If Pac annihilates Rios, I guarantee the fight hype will start up and again.

 

Floyd's career turned out exactly as planned.

 

I honestly feel Mayweather didn't care as much at the end of the day about the doping, but he was actually afraid he might lose.

Mayweather has more than likely already whipped doped fighters.

 

Maybe he has. But do you really think he or anyone else would thought that Pac had a problem with taking random blood testing? I mean, talk about fueling the flame of suspicion.

2005? Sure. But this fight was 1st negotiated late 2009/early 2010. Over 4 yrs later. I hope you're not saying that Pac is a mental midget.

 

As a fan of the sport I understand your argument but I
wanna know why do you consider Williams and Margarito huge legacy fights there over all accomplishments for there career is next to nil let alone at welter.

Margarito's biggest win was Cotto which very well could have had something to do with a little extra something inside his gloves. Other than that.............what? One good win does not a great fighter make.

P. Will biggest win was Sergio. And that fight was extremely close with the victory that could have gone either way. And we all know what happened in the rematch, so.....................

These 2 are supposedly the world beaters that Floyd ducked. Anyone who thinks that DKSAB!

Yes, I would have liked to see the fights but people need to quit talking about these dudes like their future HOF's. It's not even close.

mosley - i mean just youtube it, theres a vid of him saying he can't fight floyd yet cos he gotta go to dentist lol anyways he left arum .. what happened...

cotto - left arum .. what happened..

canelo - is with gbp, fight gets made in a few weeks..

margarito - to my knowledge, people were telling him to, at the time, fight baldomir ( he was the current champ).. so floyd did.. he also got offered more money for this fight, hmmm wonder whether people would fight the guy offering less money??

pacquaio - all negotiations were agreed in 09, pac refuses testing... no fight.. 11.. floyd offers pac 40mill & he promotes the event under mayweather promo, pac refuses.. oh yeah its floyds fault the fight didn't happen lol.. i guarantee you if pacquiao gets a few wins under his belt, leaves arum end of this year (i think his contract expires?) the fight will get made.. it would of years ago if pacquiao had left arum.

people are under some illusion floyd ducks fights.. he doesn't.. he tends to fight once a year so sure some guys over the years didn't get a shot but he can't fight every fighter can he.. another point is people seem to forget floyd was the ducked fighter years ago, he offered no payday and a very tough fight, fighters knew it would be very tough to beat him..
