Who should have been boxing's representative against Inoki in 1976?

Yeah, but Lil Floyd took out Big Show didn’t he? Invoki is small potatoes by comparison.

I kid you not, I knew someone who thought that the Big Show routine was for REAL!

I said NO. They said but what about the blood? I said capsules.

They paused for a second but then I could see them mentally rejecting my explanation and they had nothing more to say on the subject. It was like I said Santa doesn’t exist. They truly wanted to believe it.

Yes but if the rules allowed takedowns and submissions I don't see Foreman winning, it's all well and good saying you need a punch but to avoid a takedown you also need the ability to sprawl and scramble. Several strikers have gotten beat by fighters with very little stand up ability such as the following:

Boxers: James Warring, James Toney, Francois Botha, Rubin Williams, Matt Skelton, Art Jimmerson, Yokthai Sithoar, Claressa Shields, Izuagbe Ugonoh, Yuri Vaulin etc

Kickboxers: Errol Zimmerman, Stefan Leko, Jerome Le Banner, Peter Aerts etc

Also Foreman's wild clubbing swings would make it very easy for a guy like Inoki to get a takedown.

As long as he can lift his leg high enough, to boot him in the nether region s, his size isn't important. Lol

I don't know a great deal about Antonio either, but he was running one of the major wrestling organizations in Japan. He also beat Bob Backlund for the WWF world title in late 1979, though his 5 day reign or so is not recognized.

I dont think he ever had a legitimate, full MMA match, so one cannot say for sure. He was trained by genuinely talented guys, so he's probably about as good as you'd expect an athletic heavyweight proto-MMA guy who regularly practices to be.

Technically, Inoki did genuinely beat up a professional strongman called "The Great Antonio" (no relation) in the ring when Inoki got angry at him. But that guy wasn't a fighter, and that's probably the only legit fight Inoki ever had in the ring...aside from the Ali match itself.

Wepner "fought" Andre The Giant on the undercard.
