im not even a big pacquiao fan but the venom shot in his direction is outrageous. when he fought DLH most people felt that even a half decent version of himself would steamroll pacquiao and a good version would have a legitimate shot at ending his life there and then in the ring. you cannot hate on this win. yeah DLH was drained like **** but the nature of the win, a complete one-sided decimation by a (far) smaller man, still getting used to the weight, against one of the best fighters of his generation cannot be sniffed at. if he had eeked out a close or moderate decision against a drained DLH then fine, but it was an absolute annihilation. i guess pac and roach knew he was gonna come in bone dry hatton? well he was the biggest name at junior WW and was calling manny out. it isn't pac's fault that mayweather got to him first. it's not like hatton was a viable fight for pac and floyd, but pac ducked him and floyd knocked him out. at the time when pac was junior WW, hatton was the top dog at the weight, so manny fought him. who else would you have had him fight? cotto? the belt holder was mosley, who was scheduled to fight berto. the other top guy in the division was mayweather who was retired. so pac made a fight with cotto, the next guy on the ladder. again, not pac's fault that cotto had previously been busted up by margarito. when pac was moving up to WW, cotto was the best guy he could fight so he fought him. that simple. Meanwhile, a couple of years earlier cotto is free and so is mayweather (the consensus two best WWs in the world) and no moves are made to make this fight. instead mayweather fights hatton and makes him come up in weight. fast forward and cotto LEAPS at a chance to fight pacquiao who has just murdered hatton and you have to think it's not cotto that shirks big risky fights, no? i'm just going on what happened... also don't talk about the catch weight because for the final time, cotto himself has said on numerous occasions both before and after the fight that he was COMPLETELY comfortable at the weight. clottey - without picking a side, pac and mayweather cannot come to an agreement, so he hauls off and challenges the next best guy. mosley and berto are the other two legit challenges and they are tied up. clottey previously lost a razor thin decision to cotto. he was also a physical ****ing beast and would always pose a threat. if you think this was an easy fight for pac you, frankly, are a ******. the 3 or so shots clottey landed did serious damage and pac landed god knows how many times and made no effect. there is all this palaver about clottey didnt want to win, was paid to throw the fight, etc. please stfu and learn boxing - pac stopped him from throwing. clottey admitted after the fight that every time he opened up he would get hit so he had less and less endeavor as the fight wore on because pac took away his options. mosley barely threw from rounds 4-12 against floyd but you never hear **** about mosley throwing that fight. like it or not clottey was a highly ranked WW at the time this fight was made and pac at least made an effort to get mayweather. we've got to remain impartial here and just accept attempts were made by both parties and they just simply reached an impasse. so he has fought a lot of guys who had their 0s taken in devestating fashion. it's not his fault that they were in this state when he got to them. he's coming up to new weights so of course he is behind the curve. i guess morales was cherry picking when he fought a manny pacquiao that he had just completely outboxed for 12 rounds. the way you guys talk, no one can ever come back from a loss. once they lose once they are damaged goods and **** their credibility forever. i completely agree that cotto, for example, was broken when he met pacquiao, and that margo had taken something from him he will never get back; he throws arm punches, neglects the body, and rarely antes up and throws while the other guy is throwing like he used to. but again, it is not pac's fault that when he reached WW, cotto was the best guy available, and he just so happened to have been beaten down already. you can only go on what happened (pac fought the best guy at the weight possible) and not what could have happened (that pac could have hit WW and then had tougher fights been available he would have ducked them in favor still of cotto). look at his history; he fought morales, marquez and barrera the best guys at their divisions. he has no history of ducking or cherry picking anyone. funny how he is suddenly. this fight with margarito, i agree is a travesty, and he should be fighting williams or martinez, risking a loss to enhance his legacy and challenge himself. but the previous wins i mentioned... i don't think you can hate on them. and for all the inevitable "can we please stfu about pac and mayweather" commentors, as well as their "amen" ****** friends - last i checked this was a) a boxing forum; and b) these two guys are the most influential in the sport; and c) no one is forcing you click on this thread.
The only people who have ever accused Manny Pacquiao of having anything other than the best win column in Boxing are Floyd Mayweather apologists. Pay them no mind. Good thread.
The issue is not that he fought De La Hoya it is that at the time De La Hoya was a light middleweight and a very good one still however his body had out grown the welterweight limit of 147.
Be honest. Going into that fight did you forseee any other possible outcome other than DLH eviscerating him? I'm just saying they are credible fights. No one forced him to take move down to 147. And it is still a fantastic performance by pac, no?
Nope google the older post from esb, many thought that even with 20 percent of his ability will be enough to annihilate Pacquiao. Or mere jabs of Oscar will ko/tko Pacquiao.
Currently, he should be fighting Andre Berto as oppose to Margarito. Before that, he was the main reason as to why the fight with Floyd didn't happen the first time around. Now, he supposedly wants the same stipulations that he denied the first time around as well. Before that, it was well-known that Mosley personally approached Roach and practically begged for a fight. Roach and company didn't want any of Sugar. Pac started his run with David Diaz when everyone knows who should have been fighting Juan Diaz. People act like Pac is this comic book hero who fights anyone at any given time regardless of the pay. They fail to mention how he actually backed out of the Hatton fight on several occasions to garner more of the purse....
i have no problems with him accepting the ODLH fight...as it was oscar who did the chasing, and pac would have been stupid to say no for that $...but i don't loot at it like a solid win as far as who else should he have fought...use the search function
We thought PAc should've fought guys at 115, 118, Valero and Guzman at 130, Campbell or Casamayor at 135, Tim Bradley at 140, Shane at 143 was it lol...Cotto at 147...he should also fight Margarito at 154, and he should've already fought Floyd when they negotiated a while back. Being that PAc wanted a cutoff date of whatever, and that Floyd was going to be tested too, wouldn't *******s think that BOTH fighters would be at risk if blood were taken too close to the fight? PAc gave a bad excuse...and now look, *******s done turned it around on Floyd lol...
but the slickest of them all went on vacation and now has said that he doesn't have the urge to fight Pacquiao. Ain't that a *****?
and yet Pac won fighter of the decade and currently being considered as #1 p4p fighter over the undefeated Floyd Mayweather.
Deep down lol...you know who the best fighter in the world is today, and the true fotd lol... Pray Pac beats Margarito lol...
