Who should rank higher on the all-time Heavyweight list - Marciano or Holyfield?

Marciano,for sure. The guy was consistent, fighting who was available, and winning 49 times. Holyfield was inconsistent. Head to head though, I'd probably pick Holyfield to win, though it might be as wild as the first Quawi fight.

 

Look here you brain-donor, Old Evander was SHOT after the Lewis rematch, fact.

 

So before he was shot, he went 1-4 against the two best fighters he ever faced.

And he also was outpointed by Michael Moorer.

How the **** was he meant to beat Peak Lewis when he was 37 years old? He did very well to be highly competitive in the close rematch, expending what greatness he had left.

The Moorer fight was extremely close & i scored it for Holyfield. If he was called "Holmes" or "Ali" it would've been his decision. Besides he had a serious heart condition (collapsed left ventricle) & an injured left shoulder.

In Bowe III, he was beating the **** out of Bowe, floored him & was about to win by KO, but his Hepititus caught up to him & he suddenly became completely exhausted.

The only time Peak Holy lost was against Peak Bowe, no shame in that.

 

It's easier to be consistent in a short career against weaker opposition than it is to be in a career that has carried on far longer than it should have and against superior opposition that weren't clearly on the downward spiral of their career.


Riddick Bowe is never going to be rated alongside the likes of Charles and Louis in the rankings,but only a delusional fool with an agenda would claim that the latter two that fought Marciano were in the same class as the version of Bowe that Holyfield beat.Come to think of it,when did Marciano ever fight a young,elite hevyweight at the top of his game,with such a drastic difference in size like Holyfield deal with when he fought Bowe?

 

Holyfield should rank higher of course.

 

Evander Holyfield is my favorite sports figure of all time. That being said, Rocky Marciano clearly ranks higher. He went 49-0 and beat some really good fighters.

 

Holyfield was the best of his era.

Big fan of both but I rank fighters based on H2H matches vs. other great fighters. When it comes to these "mythical" H2H match-ups I think Holyfield ranks above Marciano... therefore I rank Holyfield above Marciano.

It must be said that Holyfield was already 30 years old when he fought Bowe for the first time. He had already went 10-0 (7) in World Title Fights and 28-0 (22) overall. He was 4-0 (1) vs. Hall of Famers Qawi x 2, Foreman, and Holmes. He first fought Bowe in November of 1992, he had turned pro in late 1984.

After age 30, Marciano beat LaStarza, Charles x2, Cockell, and Moore before retiring.

Lewis' excuses for losing to McCall and Rahman:

McCall - No excuse for losing. Stated that he feels that the stoppage was premature and that a champion should be given the benefit of the doubt.

Rahman - No excuse.



Marciano's excuses for losses/poor performances:

Revisionist history. The betting odds and public opinion were more or less even going into Lewis 1. If fact if anyone was considered a slight favourite, it was Holyfield.

He certainly didn´t prove it. Lewis was the best. Bowe would also rank above Tyson in the 90s.

Clearly Marciano imho.

I was a huge fan of Evander but personally steroids taint his achievments.

H2H over 12 rounds I'd favour Marciano as well.
