A fighter with gamboas god given gifts has to go to mayweather. All he needs is defense and he is the master of it.
Its never too late. Look at MAB. He went from being a slugger to becoming a great boxer at a late stage in his career.

God given talen??? Raw Talent?? People forget something very important. Amateur boxers in Cuba are, in other words, unpaid professionals. Thats what they do for a living. Gamboa doesnt have that many PRO fights. But he has bee figthing for at least 15 years. Amateur in Cuba are lifetime carreer. For that reason, I don't expect Gamboa to get much better.

IMO, he clearly needs a defensive specialist. Someone like Roger or Floyd Mayweather Sr. The Mayweather's are also well suited to deal with an excessively athletic and explosive style of fighter, and will allow Gamboa to keep his rythm and natural flow. To me, someone like Beristain or Roach will try and do what Gamboa's current trainers have attempted to do and that's force him to be more classical - something that's not working. This is the problem in itself right now. He must maintain his natural style in large part in order to remain effective and be succesful. All you have to do is look at his last fight. He came out trying to implement some traditional style improvements, felt akward, got caught, got caught again, got dropped, and came out the next round in his natural style and obliterated the guy. It's simple.

I don't know that Gamboa needs some big overhaul. If he just kept his hands up a little better he'd probably get dropped less often. That "hands at the waist, face forward" style is just asking to get starched.

Until he actually loses, I don't see much changing about him.
