Exactly, the second line was meant to be step number 2, after the Maori TV runs off. Last I heard Maori TV pays 80k per fight, which is decent money to make the fights from the first line. If Tua vs Cameron generated a million purse, isn't it completelly possible for Tua to generate 400k on some decent fights now that his name is flying high again? That would mean 480k total purse, which Tua could use some 150k to dangle around and get any of the first names mentioned the way he wants. IMO, he should have fought Welliver in early december already, he was in great shape and it would be an easy bout for him, plus Chauncy is ranked in the WBO top 15. Anyway, Ahunanya is a pretty good fight, Welliver and several others remain as possibilities to get rid of the Maori TV deals, just hope he gets that off the way as fast as he can, so we can watch him in big fights already in 2010.
Actually, I think the MTV fights will work out well for him. He's had less than 5 rounds in over 2 years, and could use some ring time for when he steps up. And it keeps him fighting and in shape. Friday will give him some ring time. And Welliver also. Yes, he should have fought him in December. They had their sights set on Rahman, and he fell thru. And then MTV forced Tua to honour the contract. And I just think time ran out. However, it WAS poor planning. Regarding $$$. Tua makes $50K from broadcasting rights with MTV. Plus the gate. But the opponent has to be credible enough for people in NZ to leave their couches and pay to see the fight live. Friday, having beaten Cameron, would do that. Don't know if MTV pays Tua's opponents anything. If anything, it would be a very small amount. If Friday is only getting $35,000 in March, I can't believe Mr Higgins, the promoter, would be paying more than that to a journeyman. Also remember, the NZ$ is 70 cents on the US$. Yes, Tua and Cameron were paid half a mil apiece, but that was NZ$$$s. I believe I read that Tua is getting paid $100,000 extra for the Friday fight, making it $150,000 in NZ dollars for that fight. Look for Tua to lay low, make stay in shape, remain active, and build up his ranking and reputation in his next three fights by fighting journeyman. Cameron brought Tua from obscurity to #3. Then he'll be ready for Peter or Arreola in the US Fall.
hope so...ive been waiting for 5 plus years now.....this guy could have been champ....with guys like mascaev, briggs, peter, valeuv, chagaev, it would have been EASY, compared to when he was coming up with champs like holyfield, bowe, tyson, and we saw what happened with lewis....
Last Chance Saloon. He knows that if doesn't make a run in 2010, it's over for him, as he's getting up in age. He was 37 on November 21st. It's a good time for him. There's not much between him and the Klits. The Klits have already beaten most of the competition, and will have finished them off by the end of 2010. V. Klit is 38, and not getting any younger. W. Klit is vulnerable to a pressure fighter, and Tua has an outside chance of connecting. In a soft division, Tua does have a chance to fight for the title. Win it? Anything's possible with his power and chin. Believe me, he doesn't want a repeat of the LL fight. I'm sure that fight still haunts him.
