Who should Usyk’s first fight be at heavyweight?

I think ideally it should be someone taller, heavier and stronger than he is not used to dealing with, someone that people can draw some sort of comparison with when he fights someone like Anthony Joshua.

I also think ideally it should be someone well known in the top twenty. I think that would be a good taking point, and also help draw a better comparison with some like Joshua.

I think Johann Duhaupas fits the bill perfectly. The guy is in the top twenty, has fought well known fighters like Wilder and Povetkin, so people know who he is through those fights.
He is not a huge puncher so it lowers the risk of his first heavyweight fight.
He is also a big heavyweight at 6’5, and 250 pounds, so would help draw some sort of comparison for Usyk’s future fights at heavyweight.
What do you think? Who do you think is the ideal opponent for Usyk’s first heavyweight fight?

Breazeale would be great to get the feel of fighting a big heavyweight but he won’t give up his mandatory slot. Duhaupas isn’t a bad shout or if he’s feeling very confident go straight up against the loser of Chisora/Whyte - easily done being all under the same roof.

i would love to see him jump right in and fight joshua if he moves up to heavyweight. seems a bit unrealistic. so many good fights for him at heavyweight. weather its a challenge or a easier type of fight.

how about pulev , j miller, helenius, trevor bryan, big daddy browne, shannon briggs, fres oquendo, joyce, or luis ortiz. lots of good fights out there.

but is he moving up to heavyweight for sure?? i would really like to see usyk vs lebedev.

    Breazy for me.

Hearn could possibly dangle the carrot of a Joshua rematch to entice DB into the ring. I've read him say he wants the rematch.

I very much doubt Usyk would be keen on the idea of starting of his HW campaign against an American Level oponent, I think he'd prefer to go straight in there against a live body, most likely a top 10-15 guy if not one of the top guys right off the bat.

Robert Garcia said that Usyk's countryman, national amateur squad teammate and good buddy Gvozdyk actually looked depressed after scoring a 30 second KO over an American Level opponent when he first arrived in the US and enlisted his services as a trainer. Garcia had noticed that Gvozdyk didn't look very happy in the locker room after the fight and he asked him why wasn't celebrating when he'd just won and Gvozdyk replied that he felt ashamed to have fought an American Level opponent and that he hadn't come all the way from Ukraine to fight American Level opponents.

No no no.... Usyk wants Joshua for his first fight in the HWD. That's what he said a few months ago. He does not want a few warm-up fights before challenging Joshua because he's the Undisputed Word CW Champion at the moment but I think that he should take a few warm-up fights at the HWD to test the power.

Joseph Parker would be interesting. Bigger and skilled, but not a huge puncher. I think Usyk would beat him relatively easily.

From a matchroom perspective Parker is a name people know, and one to compare the performances of AJ and Usyk.

Doubt this would happen straight away though. Loser of Chisora vs Whyte perhaps.

Isn't Joshua the future? I mean he's way younger than the other Heavyweights

Depends who Joshua fights. Whyte or Chisora makes most sense if they are building towards and AJ fight.
