It seems as though all the 140 pound titlist are locked into fights so that would leave Ortiz with the options of fighting guys like Torres, Malignaggi, Campbell and maybe even Junior Witter if he's interested in one last payday. But in all Victor Ortiz is the truth and a true future top 10 pound for pound fighter and maybe even more.
Malignaggi would be a good choice. I doubt Torres will take this tough kid when he wants a shot at Holt. I don't think Campbell would take someone that dangerous right now as he will be looking for a good money fight.
Ortiz vs. Kotelnik is virtually a done deal. From Dan Rafael's chat... ---------------------- • Junior welterweight Victor Ortiz and junior middleweight James Kirkland, Golden Boy's prized rising stars, will get their first opportunities to fight for world titles this summer, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com. Schaefer said he has come to terms with Universum, which promotes junior welterweight titlist Andreas Kotelnik and junior middleweight beltholder Sergei Dzindziruk. "I made a deal with Universum," Schaefer said. "We have agreed on the monetary side. We made a deal for both fights and to have them in the United States." Schaefer said Universum was finalizing its deals with its fighters. Schaefer said Kotelnik-Ortiz will take place June 27 in Los Angeles -- either at the Staples Center or the smaller Nokia Theatre across the street -- on HBO's "Boxing After Dark." The other fight on the card probably will be a rematch of the Feb. 28 draw between featherweight titlist Chris John and Rocky Juarez, Schaefer said. Kirkland will challenge Dzindziruk on another "BAD" card, probably Aug. 1, from somewhere in Kirkland's home state of Texas, as long as Kirkland beats Michael Walker on May 2. • Junior lightweight contender Robert Guerrero (23-1-1, 16 KOs), who wound up with a second-round no-contest against Daud Yordan on March 7 when Guerrero elected not to continue after suffering a cut from an accidental head-butt, is expected back in the ring June 12 as the headliner on ESPN2's "Friday Night Fights," Schaefer told ESPN.com. If Guerrero wins, he'll likely return to open HBO's August card featuring Dzindziruk-Kirkland. ---------------------- Fight is intriguing as hell. Ortiz seems to have major league pop, but is largely untested. Kotelnik is a tough crafty fighter with a sound defense and possibly the best chin in the division.
True but Ortiz seems to have power that can crack a very good chin. But it's good to see the kid get a title shot.
Wow, Ortiz is just 22 yrs old and now he will get his chance for a title which I expect him to win. This is great and I can't wait to see Kirkland fight for his first title. Both are great for boxing!
I agree. This is a very good and he gets one of the belts. This will be a big boost for what I think will be a great fighter and he's an exciting fighter!
