iv been very skeptical of the man, he has great attributes, but his chin is dodgy its not as bad as khans by any stretch of the imagination but it is average at the very least and he carries his hands at his waist line he's a KO waiting to happen IMO, in his last 2 fights iv seen him badly rocked by men who were little more then club-fighters and gate keeper level journeymen, his legs fell beneath him when salido got to him and he was rocked badly by the latino who he fought in germany i think some1 like chris john will seriously expose his defence and shut him out and i reckon for his sake he should carry on ducking Celestino Caballero, juanma would be something special to watch but i'd lean to juanma to KO him. He isnt the future P4P ppl were claiming him to be
He's not chinny in that sense he's just so unorthodox and unbalanced which leads to him being dropped but i disagree about him being hurt he hasnt really seemed out on his feet. So fast in hands and feet, super power for the weight he could be special. Seems to get frustrated though that could be his his down-fall. I actually pick him over Juanma, Mtagwa DID hurt him
Gamboa is a badass but he's vulnerable, which means he's soo much fun to watch. He's not gonna be a p4p great or someone who dominates for years, but he's gonna give us some fantastic fights at the top level. Some he'll win and some he'll lose, depending on the style he comes up against....that type of career. Just enjoy the ride! It's funny how he's considered a 'prospect' but he's almost 30 years old though, lol. I know he was a new pro, but i always thought comparing him to JuanMa was a little unfair, in terms of the criticism people would deal out. In many cases JuanMa would face a tougher opponent and get the flak while people praised Gamboa. You would think JuanMa was the guy who was almost 30 years old at times, LOL!
Nothing wrong with his chin imo. Been matched very hard for someone of the amount of pro fights he has had. Would be a travesty if he didnt at least unify a division or get top 3 pound for pound at one stage.
Future P4P in my opinion. His 'dodgy' chin come from being of-balance and tends to jump in with punches.
Completely agree, fed up of hearing all this nonsense about his chin. It's been going on for a few years. With the exception of maybe one occasion I've never actually seen him hurt, people should recognize dropped does not always = hurt. Fact is he's the type of fighter that exposes himself to being knocked down often. Which could be a problem in itself against better foes, as well as the fact he's not hard to find clean. He's very special physically and offensively though, a lot more impressive than the leaden footed Juanma.
Yep, he has a lot of balance issues, that's why the style he faces is important because someone who can take advantage of that will cause him problems. He's very athletic and physically gifted, but not a freak to the point where he can get away with it for so long at the top.
Gamboa gets caught off balance, you will obviously get dropped if caught in the positions he finds himself in. He ain't like other fighters who go jelly legged and fall over. He just falls down and gets back up again. Shows he's fine to me.. I think he's one of them fighters who will lose to a unheralded fighter. Can see him winning big bouts and getting a bigger and bigger name, getting tagged as a beast and the second coming of Tyson (pretty sure someones tagged him as that before?). Then he will suffer a loss to a fundamentally sound and calm boxer. He's good for boxing and he's the present...his time is now!!!!!!!!!!
I'd like to see him face a technically sound puncher like Rafa once he's dealt with Lopez. If he wins in style then it's pretty obvious he's the real deal..... because it would definitely be a dangerous fight for him.
I wonder about his mental game. He gets frustrated, sloppy and looks like he's kind of showing off a lot of the time, like he's too cool to do the dirty work. Doesn't think through his strategy at all. That's where he'll fall short because on pure punch throwing ability he's incredible. I love to watch him, but when he gets sloppy he gets dragged into scrappy fights which aren't so entertaining.
Gamboa’s all flash and can be exciting to watch. But he likes to load up, clinch and can look very unrefined. He’s fast and can punch a bit, but it’s crazy anyone rates him above Lopez who’s beaten better guys. He’ll make for good fights when he steps up, but he’s in his prime right now. He’ll be slowing down in the next two years and his poor technique’s going to catch up with him.
Gamboa is already top 5 P4P so far as people genuiniely in the know are concerned, just as Andre Ward is P4P number 1. The only question is will he be able to convince ignorant fans like yourselves that he is that good? You people doubting him, whom rated Shane Mosley as a P4P fighter a month ago, way above Gamboa.
