You cant just declare fighters p4p #1 or ~#5 without them actually fighting top ranked fighters, no matter how talented or promising they may look. You have to beat the best to be the best....
Yes I can mate. I declared Joe Calzaghe to be the best fighter in the worth in 2002. Time proved me to be right, once again. I have been saying Shane Mosley is poo for 10 years, I am not waiting for him to look god-awful against Sergio Mora until I am allowed to make that claim. I am ahead of my time so long as the rest of you maintain your backwards beliefs. I have the vision and will use it. I don't need to see Andre Ward crush Floyd Mayweather Junior to know he is the best out there.
This guy even has a thread dedicated to him. Classic compilation..especially the color of glove chart! <------must see! http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=155768
I've never seen him hurt. Not badly anyway, all the kd's have been so inconsequential it shows up a lot of modern boxing fans when they say about him being a 'K.O waiting to happen' etc etc He's got some startling attributes. Shame he hasn't already faced Caba though, winnable for him IMO, once he gets inside those gangly arms, which with Gamboas speed of foot/hand wouldn't be too hard IMO. He'll annihilate JuanMa, and early, wait and see :yep
Ive said all along Chris John in shape @100% desimates Gamboa :deal , and i mean destroys him . I will hold my hand up and say , before the Salido fight i had Gamboa sneeking in at #10 P4P , after that fight , and after me singing from the roof tops how Gamboa vs Juanma wouldnt even be competetive (in Gamboa's favour) im of the opinion Gamboa may be getting knocked out :deal I was really really dissapointed with Gamboa in that fight , i mean sickeningly so , i havent been effected by something boxing related that much since the death of Edwin Valero is how id put it into words how pissed i was at Gamboa , i really did beleive in him , even the Barros fight in was willing to overlook as a 1 off , as he showed flashes of absolute supreme athletesism and counter / combination punching in that fight . Big question mark over Gamboa now , and IMO he should be considered more hype than substance , but still too early to right the man off just yet , after all he is very very talented ........ :good
Chris John :rofl John is a decent operator. Puts his punches together well, takes a decent shot and mixes his approach well. -Not a puncher -Fades down the stretch -Not too hard to hit How the Hell you come to the conclusion he'd beat Gamboa, handily as well, I don't know. I personally think Chris John might, MIGHT, be able to do enough good work early that he could ride out the rough patches he always seems to have late. But bar Marquez, by all means a hard to score fight, Johns resume is pathetic, and I was a long-time supporter of his. The guy always seems in decent shape, always seems 'ill' just before he fights though, something I no longer give him a free pass for. He gasses late, that much is obvious. Gamboas offensive skills>>>>>>>Rocky Juarez's Gamboa has some decent scalps/performances seeing how many pro fights he's actually had. Salido was a decent enough performance, against a gutsy operator who'd previously beaten long-time belt holder Cristobal Cruz, who himself is no great shakes admittedly. JuanMa hasn't looked much better against a similar level of operator in Luevano, smothering his own work and having only one plan (luckily, due to Luevano being B-level it worked out for him) Valero was shockingly shite as well IMO, him doing himself in saved a handful of decent-level operators handing him his ass.
Agreed with all of this dudewardo. Would you also agree JMM cannot really be considered a master boxer?
I think JMM is a master punch-picker. His timing and accuracy are out of this World, and his combinations fluid, yet hurtful also. I like the way he moves in and out-of-range to avoid shots and how he steps in with his counters (his punching form is terrific), though he's become more and more hittable (though less cautious and lets his hands go more) as he's aged and moved up in weight. One of my favourites, an ATG, but not one of the top 100 fighters that ever lived IMO (not quite yet anyway, though it's debatable) and I have him JUST behind Morales in the 3 great Mexicans from the last fifteen years or so. You'll have to elaborate on 'master boxer' though Joe; what are your criteria?
In comparison to the way Gamboa has looked John is what i would consider a seasoned athlete , Gamboa also fades in fights , and Gamboa's technique suffers for this , both offensively and defensively . At lest with John all you see is his output drop slightly , Gamboa seems to lose all of his technique and holds his hands round his waist . The reason i beleive John beats Gamboa handily is John's straight punching ability and his output , i dont think Gamboa would have an answer for Chris John's jab over 12 !!!! , early on ofcourse Gamboa is a threat to every fighter in the world , i think John faded mildly against Juarez down the stretch yes , not quite as prominent as you put it but he did fade , plus Juarez caught him with some big shots at that point which also slowed him down , compared to Gamboa i beleive John to be a much better athlete over 12 rounds . I beleive the consistancy and the technical level of Johns jab will win him a fight with Gamboa , Gamboa does not catch anything on the gloves and very rarely blocks , which means if he is to avoid a good consistent jab he will not be able to get off with anything meaningfull offensively , and will be constantly off balance , granted if he does land a solid counter on John early on it could be lights out , after all he did very nearly stop Salido in 7 (if memory serves me right) with a viscious counter followed by a relentless swarm of flurrys . In summary i beleive Johns style to be Gamboa's crytponite , high volume of pin point , solid jabs and right hands , excellent footwork , never stays straight on always moving off angle and in out , i really like John lop sided UD or even a stoppage , i dont know i just see holes in Gamboa's game that i beleive Chris John will capitalise on . Valero .................................. Flea !!!!! Shockingly Shite , ****in come on mate , he was at the least exciting . Edit : in fact ive just bee re thinking in my head how bad Gamboa's defence was (mid to late rounds Salido) and im convinced John is handing him his ass ............
Id strongly fancy Gamboa to KO Caba , Caba is way too upright for a fighter like Gamboa , a fighter who is un predictable , heavy handed , athletically gifted and a lot lot faster than Caballero. Id really like a Gamboa knock out in that one , Caballero moves back hands down and chin in the air , i think Gamboa would land and stop him mid way through . In what would seemingly be a close fight at that point .
Both dft and winfella; Valero was God-awful. Barely a top opponent in nearly 30-fights, and his power was massively overrated. Sloppy finisher too. He was exciting, but IMO, would never have amounted to much. A poor mans Bzaooka Limon. Winfella; very good reply on John-Gamboa. I just think Gamboa has classier combinations; I think he'd win it on points in a spirited battle.
Weak CV , cannot be argued that one , went life and death with Di Marco , clobbered on several occasions , doesnt bode well for a potential fight with a top level / elite level opponent . Bags of heart and genuine power , i liked him mate , i really wanted to see what this fella was made of against Marquez or Soto and the likes , ****in shame , absolute cryin shame . However , God awful , i dont think id have him in that bracket
