I just watched the Broner Demarco fight and couldn't fail to notice that Demarco has no head movement, no lateral movement, and stands in one position like a punching bag. He also leans forward, gets hit repeatedly by uppercuts and comes in leaning forward again only to get hit by the same uppercuts. Question: Who was the who trained this guy how to fight and how did this guy ever get to be a champ?
The Demarco Broner beat takes out a ton of current 135. Demarco has never been a pushover and he had some success vs Broner that was a great fight. Demarco was really trying to bring it to Broner, even being over macho at times. It seemed he had more success when he tried to establish distance. I think that broner just forced AD into an inside fight. Broner had some damn good combinations. I think Demarco never fought a style like Broner's before and he was frustrated
He is a Tijuana transplant and that's where he learned to box. That's also where many fighters from Texas to California get their opponents when they are going through the rankings. DeMarco has done well for himself with his limited ability, he never learned anything new and it has haunted him since. He had Roach as a trainer but he really needed Nacho.
He was never noticed for having great boxing or defensive ability, his attributes were always completely different, like having an iron chin, a good left hook, a good gas tank. Just because you're a boxer doesn't mean you can box, do the actual hit and not get hit stuff. Demarco was one of them.
Tijuana trainers don't know boxing basics? BTW I find it hard to believe that Roach didn't notice those serious flaws. I mean, leaning in and getting hit with an uppercut means don't lean in or else you'll get hit with uppercuts. Fighting robotically means that you become predictable. Not moving your head means you will get tagged more often. Roach didn't notice that?
No I am not saying that he is or was a pushover. I am just saying that I don't understand why Demarco had absolutely no lateral movement, no head movement, repeatedly leaned into uppercuts and remained there waiting for more. Aren't lateral movement, not leaning in that way and bobbing and weaving part of basic training? I disagree that Broner forced him into an inside fight. It looked to me that DeMarco wanted to be exactly at that distance. In fact, he never backed up until the barrage floored him. BTW At the interview Broner looked so far over the weight limit that it was obviously a mismatch based on that alone.
Joe Gallagher the trainer from England, trains the Smith brothers, Crolla etc. Very well known for his guys having next to no head movement.
DeMarco used be homeless. If he could afford a home he couldn't afford a top level trainer. But he still beat one of this era's greatest boxers and Broner was a weight bully at 135.
I guess not. I went to Demarco's come back fight in Tijuana at a Casino and Roach was right there with him. He was getting hit clean in that fight but he won it by KO. Roach is offense first, defense last which is why we all witnessed Pacquiao getting bullied for the second time in his career . First time was by Apagito Sanchez and Horn fought him the same way and won. Roach didn't know what to say because he is used to his fighters being the bullies.
