Jermell isn't going to beat Canelo, I'd say he's more over rated than Spence was but that wouldn't be true because not that many rate Jermell that highly to begin with, this is the same fighter who lost to Harrison and drew with Castano.

I also don't see P4P being something you need to win every year, this isn't football, this is boxing and titles are won by beating someone that proves your superiority not by just being more active. Inoue could be out for a year with an injury, does that mean we should rank Fulton above him if Fulton is active and wins a belt at 126? Of course not because we'd know as soon as Inoue was injury free and moved up he'd beat Fulton worse than last time.

I'd also disagree as someone who thought Spence was over rated and thought he'd get KO'ed by Bud, he's still better than Jermell for me. Jermell is nothing special at all and would lose to Spence if they fought, but he'd have a punchers chance vs Spence.

Jermell is better than Fulton, that I agree with but not by much.

 

Controversial opinion but i really think people sleep on Juan Francisco Estrada, i think he has one of the best resumes in the last 5 years. And he has just as much say to be rated top 4 as Bivol or Beterbiev IMO.

 

I'd have personally gone Estrada or Haney.

Jermell is an enormous weight bully. At 168, he might come in with super strength and serious pop.

Not it's not. He improved leaps and bounds in each of those rematches and looked his best in his last fight. Jermell is arguably at his peak now.

P4P is about the fighter you are now, today, not what you did years ago. IF we're gonna compare resumes and what everybody did in the past then Canelo would be the clear #1. There's a debate right now over who is the best fighter in the world P4P. Canelo and Jermell are both definitely in that conversation. The winner of this fight has the best argument for P4P #1 because they're both Undisputed Champions who are coming off impressive and dominant performances.

Give me a break. Spence is a car crash victim who's always been relative basic and one dimensional. He beat people mostly by having a high work rate and just overwhelming fighters, he never really had to make adjustments. Jermell has a ton more depth to his game than Spence, he's also a much more explosive puncher, and has better defense. Spence before the injury had a lot of promise and I would say was a slicker and more well rounded boxer than Jermell but also was more basic and limited. Never really tested or had to make high level adjustments like Jermell had to do to overcome Harrison and Castaño.

He's better, also far more dangerous.

 

The way I see it Heavyweights get penalized too much in P4P rankings. At its core P4P is a discussion to lift up fighters from lower weight classes.

But Heavyweights:

1. Are the King division. The Heavyweight champion of the world is King of them all. He can beat any other boxer on the planet.

2. Heavyweights never fight weight drained fighters.

3. The raw power that fighters at Heavyweight posses is seriously dangerous to the human body. Heavyweights have to be able to absorb that kind of insane power.

4. It’s always said what if you just make a small fighter bigger then he can beat the bigger man with his speed and skills. But that should work the other way around as well then right? Tyson Fury for example has good skills and mobility. If he would shrink down then he should by that reasoning also become even faster, more mobile, and coordinated right?
