People do fall in love with power too much, but his early destruction of Campillo and Cleverly were impressive. Both of them were easy top 10 LHW's.

Kovalev seems to be a rare case of having some great skills and commitment to volume unlike most other "power punchers" who get overrated on this site.

Kovalev isn't one-dimensional. More often than not, he wins in exchanges. He showed a good inside game against Cleverly.

And before you call me a Kovalev nuthugger, I actually bet on HOPKINS.

Kovaliff or Kovavoff may be one dimensional
However, KOVALEV is an all around fighter who just happens to have great power along with his other skills.

All the great fighters went through fighting nobodies before they got a break. This is kovalev's breakout fight and I think he retires the old man.

Love BHOP but 49 is 49 and at some point some young lion is going to take your place. Kovalev is that guy. Skills and power. I just hope bhop doesn't get brutally KO'ed.

Pavlik comparisons are legit - for punch powa

    But thats where it ends

    Kovalev is vastly more experienced

I would feel sorry for Hopkins - but the guy's as crafty as they come

And has spoiled enough potential great fights that i dont care too much

Hopkins looked good in beating Cloud, Murat and Shumenov but Kovalev is something else; not a run-of-the-mill Boxer; not a pretender to the throne. He is set to go out and take his place at the top of the LHW's.

Who has he beat? Everyone put in front of him and he has not procrastinated in achieving his victories. Who would he have to beat to warrant being given a chance against Hopkins? Other than taking the WBC route towards Stevenson, in a different unification bout, I see no other options for him to increase his credibility as a viable opponent for Hopkins - So, Hopkins is the man he needs to face and prove himself against.

I suspect Kovalev will do just that.

People dump on Pavlik now but he was no less respected than Golvokin now is several years ago.

Those who weren't even watching boxing when he the sickly looking underdog Pavlik tore through the much feared Edison Miranda, and then usurped lineal MW champion Jermain Taylor, who had just shut down the decade long reign of Bernard Hopkins don't have a clue.

Back to back wins against Jermain Taylor, with the standing and wins he just had, is more than Kovalev will ever accomplish in his career.
