I was the same as the OP when I first scored the bout. Quite an easy decision to Leonard (like 116-112; 116-113).

Upon further re-watches, my score-card always gets a LITTLE bit closer (but in truth, I am LOOKING for things to give to Hagler, based on the controversy). The last time I scored it was 115-114 (6-5-1 in rounds) to Leonard, with a slight asterisks next to the even round indicating that I was leaning towards Leonard slightly in that round (which woulda made it 7-5 anyway).

Again, how such a close fight can be said is a robbery is insane. NO robbery. Close, but clear win for Leonard (or Hagler, if that's your preference) is the only way to look at it.

For years I thought Marvin got robbed, but I recently watched a Ringside Classics show that showed the entire fight. Now that I've watched that fight in a more detached and objetive manner I have no problem with SRL winning. Haglar screwed up. He gave away the first 4 rounds. That actually wasn't the first time Marvin screwed himself in big fights. Against Antefurmo he gave away the last two rounds and ended up with a draw.

The Leonard fight was the wrong fight to show him if you want him to see why Hagler was the greatest middleweight of all time. Hearns, Sibson, Hamsho I & II, Minter, Scypion, Obelmejias I & II would have been the fights to watch.

Hagler had the Whitaker curse...which can now be considered the JMM curse. Sometimes a guy just doesn't get the decision.

I had it for Hagler 115-113 but I understand if it was the other way around. It was a close fight and a great one at that.

The reaon is that he didnt fight for 30 seconds a round. He showed amazing bits of explosive power that were real eye catches, but not just at the end of the rounds, pretty much any time Hagler had him pressed; which is why Hagler couldnt score any points - Leonard unloaded viscious combinations whenever Hagler got in his damage going range (i.e. on the ropes). Apart from these explosive spurts he was also landing his jab frequently, and consistent flush straight rights that made Haglers reflexes look amateirish. So again, downs syndrome cousin of a tree ******, Leonard 8 rounds to 4. Don't let the fact that I realize that youre a **** and am not being afraid to say so deter you from the fact that I'm unassailably correct. Now, please have someone shove you back up your mothers vagina.

Any escaped mental patient with a modicum of boxing scoring abiity could tell that Leonard won that fight.

effective aggression that dictated the whole fight. leonard danced to the beat orchestrated by marvelous hagler, and you cant deny that.

Thid id not 'Dancing With the Stars', your mindless buffoon. Orchestrating / dictating the tempo of a fight has little to no bearing on who wins the fight; The latter is decided by who lands the most scoring punches. "Aggression" is used to split fighters when they have scored evenly throughout a round.

hagler landed the HARDER shots and CONTROLLED most of the fight. leonard pity-flurries was not effective in warding off haglers aggressive offense. hagler is swarming all over leonard from round 4 to 12, almost connecting at will. how the judges scored the fight to leonard is beyond me.

Well, 'controlling'' doesn't mean ****, for reasons I've already explained. Niether does the 'swarming', unless it's effectivel; Everytime Hagler got in close the fighters clinched and then Leonard would unload 6 punches on him out of the clinch. As for the 'Harder punches', that's probably true (That Hagler landed them), as he would being the bigger puncher, but there were few; not enough to negate Leonads frequent leathering of Marvins dome. AMATEUR scorers probably think Hagler landed a lot, but Leonard in fact avoided 95% of the punches - Hagler was swinging and missing all night - the exact sort of thing that gullible, cretinous boxing now-nothings would confuse with scoring.

I felt that Leonard clearly won a very close fight.

Another boxing myth. Leonard only fought for 30 seconds per round against Hagler. Completely untrue.
