who think chris weidman can beat silva?

It's a short notice fight to save the card after Belfort decided to face Jones last month. The fight is at 205. It's not like Bonnar is getting a title shot.

 

I dont think anyone from 185 to 205 can beat Silva. I used to think that Jones could do it but his crude stand up isnt going to do.

I do think Weidman is talented and i do think he's the future, but his lack of experience will absolutely destroy him against Silva, its a tough one this because Weidman is well on his way to being the #1 contender at MW so Silva may have to face him eventually, i do like Weidman, but Silva is too good, too experienced for him IMHO

I think a better question is, who other than Silva beats Weidman??

 

I dont think Weidman could handle Silva yet give him a year or two more and he will probably be there but then where will Silva be?

 

Weidman would have a better shot at dethroning Silva than anyone else at 185.

 

I think Belfort has the best chance at beating Silva to be honest. Weidman? Don't see him stopping him on the ground, definitely not submitting him and no way he can grind out 5 rounds on him without getting Knocked Out on his feet. Just don't see it.

Belfort or GSP have the best chance at beating him.

After the Belfort fight I now question whether Jones can beat Silva either. Jones wouldn't touch Silva standing, and after seeing that arm bar, I'm pretty certain Silva can trap him on the ground as well.

I do, Possibly not getting the next shot was a good thing It will probably motivate him and more importantly he will have with out doubt improved a lot more by the time the fight happens next year.

:goodSilvas threat of submission would keep this fight on its feet. Believe that. Belfort had alot of play in that guard but He just didnt have the leverage that Silva has and Hes just not as good in BJJ.

 

Jones would definitely take Anderson down. The threat of the KO is a lot more real than the threat of submission. If anything, nearly getting subbed was a good thing for his career. There is no doubt that he will be working hard on his submission defence, now.

I do like that now that Jones was close to being subbed, it's a massive exploitable weakness in his game. Unless you have Vinny Magalhaes level BJJ, you do not want Jones on top of you. We see Bendo get stuck in super tight submission attempts all the time, yet no one thinks that the best gameplan to fight him is to try to sub him from the bottom.

 

Fair post but Silvas BJJ man, that is underrated. What made me change my mind was I now believe He was injured for the first Chael fight. He is just so long that He is a huge threat to Jones on the ground and Jones isnt Superman that would just pick up anything BJJ. He is an athletic freak but his standup has not improved in two years, based on that I dont see him becoming Roger Gracie either.
