I think he just didn't wanted to take a trashing and after taking the liver shot he made the "pounding the canvas and rolling over" act.

I don't know if DIVE is the right word but there is something "fixed" in that fight.

And DLH overreacted with that liver shot. Was he hurt? May very well be. But was he THAT hurt? I doubt it.

Oscarsexuals, forget the knockdown for a moment and concentrate on the earlier rounds. Does anyone think that was anything but a sparring exhibition? Hell it was you tap me and I'll tap you. It was nothing but light sparring. No heavy blows just slaps. a completely boring fight. Then the knockdown. And no matter how you try to spin it it was a glancing blow with the palm of the glove. Too many thibgs just do not add up. The clincher is 2 weeks later Hopkins is GIVEN the title of VP in GBP. C'mon even the most ardent Oscarsexual can see through that. Tap. tap. tap, hops telling his corner before the bell to start the 9th round "This is the round", then the glancing blow to the side, Oscar down rolling on the floor pounding the mat saying ****, ****, and then the "gift" two weeks later to a % of GBP. Man you guys are something else. You really make it easy for the Golden Fishnet.

I don't know. I think if he wanted to take a dive he would have taken one when he was hit in the head and not the body so it wouldn't look as suspicious. Another words if he wanted to take a dive he could have picked a better punch to do it on so if I had to make a choice, I would say no.

I looked at it from all the angles they showed and looked legit, there is a sudden change in DLH's face when he got hit. But then again he might have been able to get up but did not want to get trashed a la Trinidad.

After all he could not hurt Hopkins at all, seemed almost feather fisted and DLH looked stressed out when Hops landed counters right on his face.

Nope , i have seen it a million times before. a strong fighter gets caught by a very tame looking body shot around the floating rib area and they just can't cope with it.. I saw it happen to World cruiserweight champ Glenn Mcrory once when he lost his title to Jeff Lampkin,, that body shot just showered his face with pain.. I seen it a lot of times when Ricky Hatton puts a body attack on you , it shocks your system , Its hard to recover.. Unreal.. But no Oscar doesnt lay down for no one in truth. He is too proud a man, especially after a real bad showing against Sturm, he had to try to make amends, Oscar is a warrior deep down to his boots..

He told Larry that he was sooo disappointed (with a smile in his face and after having embraced Bernard soon after the rolling and pounding act) and that Bernard caught him right on the button when he was in front of one of the judges cards ( must have watched that card when he was on the edge of the canvas, wincing in pain for two minutes or something). For ****sake...

Not to mention the kind of money and recognition he would have got afterwards if he had won the fight.

I have been hit by small liver shots, and they still hurt like hell. It doesn't happen immediately but it sinks in deep as if getting stabbed and your legs feel numb.

Men aren't machines, you can't flip a switch and make them perform well. DLH went into the fight believing he was going to lose. When a man believes he can't win, usually he can't. Hopkins hit him with an unexpected bodyshot and DLH imagined it was worse than it actually was because he was expecting to get knocked out. Boxing at the highest levels is 90% mental, 10% physcial. Mentally, he wasn't in it to win, he was just waiting to lose.

Oh and I agree that Lampkin caught Mcrory on the spot cause Glenn was really pumped up to defend his cruiserweight title and couldn't simply get up with a grimace in his face, I was just 17 to figure that out. But the Hoya and Castillo thang, they both schocked my system with what they did, I was like "WTH happened" but only then...

I don't believe any of those conspiracies about it being planned beforehand, but I wouldn't be surprised if Oscar just quit because he felt he couldn't win. It would hardly be the first time a fighter has given up, especially later in a fighter's career after he's already achieved a lot (and has a lot of $$$).

I've seen quite a few body shot KOs and not only have all of them looked like better punches, but never did the KO victim bang his glove against the canvas and roll around. They were always frozen in pain.

RJ against Virgil Hill looked very powerful.
Gatti against Dorin looked very powerful.
Hatton against Castillo looked very powerful.
Hopkins against Oscar looked like a love tap.

Take from that what you will.

That's all we're sayin Erratic, there's no conspirancy or fix in there. Oscar caught Bernard with a jab in the first, was hitting thin air after and like Manny pointed out later, Bernard just didn't respect his punching power and started walking right in and distorting Oscar's face with right hands that he never took before.

Actually, Bernard was on the edge of his nerves n keepin fingers crossed when he was in the locker-room and watchin Oscar fightin in the same spot and geatin beaten by Sturm, came back to the ring to congratulate Oscar as Sturm wisely said that he "understood that there was a big fight being built up". That's where I would consider that major external influences played their role concerning these two and unlucky Felix Sturm ( means lucky storm in german ironically).

Finally and about the hook that followed up a jab and that landed on the side of Oscar's body, Bernard said in the interview that he didn't know what was goin on first but that he heard a whoosh from Oscar when he went down... Oscar won a sixth division title ( including WBO Super Feather and WBO Middle straps) and that was good enough for both, soon afterwards they were partners in GBP.
