As an addendum to my last post, I thought I might add that the Hopkins who faced Pavlik had retreated to the pharmacy and had come back feeling "rejuvenated" if you know what I mean......... ;)

In addition to that it's worthy to note that Pavlik was still recovering from Bronchitis and was simply not in the condition health-wise for a major fight.

Calzaghe vs Hopkins II - Calzaghe by way of clear UD, and the chapter closed!

you got to look at it this way, hopkins did anything and everything he could to get breathing time, feighing low blows, acting, holding, even the odd head butt i saw, it was quite shameful considering the referee did jack **** of warning hopkins. also hopkins might have landed cleaner shots but you dont win rounds with 2-3 clean shots per round...bottom line hopkins relied on fighting in america with american judges and referee and he still lost....people should accept calzaghe won fair and square. personally good on calzaghe for not giving hopkins a rematch the guy had his chance.

had Hopkins thrown more punches instead of doing his best John Ruiz impression with all of the clinching, holding, grabbing, and faking low blows he probably would have won the fight.

Hopkins Ruiz like tactics were a disgrace.

People are allowed to disagree with the decision. It's healthy discussion. It's when people shout down other people's views that it's not healthy. Hopkins V Calzaghe is going to be debated for years, like Hagler - Leonard is.

If you like aggression and workrate you most likely scored it for Calzaghe. If you like effective clean punching then you scored it for Hopkins. Calzaghe did not land a good punch until the middle of the 8th Round and Kellerman even comments right after.

Had Hopkins tried to fight, Calzaghe would have landed even more, and the last thing Hopkins would win against Joe is a brawl.

In fairness, Hopkins did all he could do to win or make it competitive,, it was very ugly, terrible fight, because it was Hopkins only way being far beneath the ability of Calzaghe, in some respects I applaud Hopkins for making it an ugly fight, he did the best he could possibly do against a vastly superior fighter, from a fans viewpoint, it was hideous.

I had my quarrels with Socrates, but I liked and respected him, he was a great poster and a good guy.

China_Hand_Joe is a minor irritation, a court jester, a sad clown, he isn't malicious or vile.

You on the other hand, my neo-Nazi friend, are something else altogether.

This perfectly encapsulates the entire thread and debate. It will never end just like Hagler-Leonard, as Calzaghe doesn't fancy a rematch.

As pleasing as your groin is, you need to have you head examined for these comments

Calzaghe is a sloppy, feather-fisted workhorse; a disciplined, headstrong fighter with great heart. He has good skills but they are not on the level of Hopkins. That is why at 43 he can still outbox Calzaghe.

  15. Ah... My favourite fight, and the boards favourite discussion point...

ranges from 9:3(+1kd) to calzaghe to 7:5(+1) to calzaghe - when i was trying to score it for Bernard.

Brilliant fight - two guys trying to outdo each other where both have some of the best ring intelligence in boxing, and one is a defensive master, the other is very hard to stop offensively when he gets going.

What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? you get this - an answer which can be argued and debated all day.

Rematch them - and be done with it. But if bhop fights like he did against Pavlik, he loses every round - Joe will beat him to the punch and Bhop (like every other Joe opponent) cannot keep up that pace for 12 rounds, even kessler couldnt manage it).
