I think he has a chance and even if he lose he'll get a lot of respect from the way he'll look.

I kinda see this like Spinks Taylor an ugly fight where a very skilled but smaller fighter fights a great defensive fight and makes it ugly for the bigger Champ Martinez in a technical bout

    Martinez edges a close one

He's changing to an American, slick style trainer for a reason.

When a convention belt Euro style southpaw runs into an unconventional slick style athlete who is also a southpaw, it's BAD NEWS.

Dzinziruk may have fought against slick style orthadox fighters, but it's very doubtful he's ever seen anything close to Martinez.

He's going to be in a shock when he finds out that Martinez is like nothing he's ever seen before and has every concievable advantage over him, including 3 inches in reach.

Dzinziruk's jab will barely be in the equation.

It will be a one sided humiliation, possibly a KO.

You're right about Serg routinely getting jobbed. I think this case might be an exception, though, because they're matching him up with one of the few world class fighters in the weight range that makes less sense (to networks and the media) to push than himself- an older, Ukrainian pure boxer with no American name recognition or presence and a style that isn't likely to convert too many new fans. Being older, without name value, and without a natural demographic to market to is what helped to screw Martinez even though he has a fan-friendly style. Dzin's got none of that working for him and if he wins, he may turn into an afterthought for the network like Pirog has.

HBO will not want Dzinziruk to win this fight. For once, I think the shoe will be on the other foot for Martinez in that regard. If Dzinziruk does win, it's likely they might try to make Dzinziruk-Pirog if for no other reason than to weed one of them out.

**** Martinez is getting overrated on here.

He is a very good fighter and should win...but the guy got hit plenty against Williams and Pavlik, even Cintron hung with him for a while.

Dzinziruk is a different kettle of fish...he may be no better, he may lose to those guys...but he is a lot different stylistically and defensively.

I see Martinez missing a lot more and getting tagged by actually clean punches a lot more..should be interesting to see how he deals. He likely kicks it up and takes control late, getting a well earned but hard fought decision...but maybe Dzunziruk has that extra gear that he is just waiting to show us.

Sergio's underdog status has helped him ambush the latest big name opponents...now he is expected to win and from the looks of it people think he is winning big and easily..I just dont think that will happen.

Buddy is the perfect trainer for him really...SD's best weapon is the jab baby and thats all Buddy is going to tell him to do.

Fact is, Dziniziruk is too green for this fighter. He needs a few fights with ths trainer before he gets in with Martinez.

He's just not ready and he hasn't shown any ability to adapt.

It's going to be a blowout at this point.

Christ i was hoping what you said wasn't true.

Ya Buddy "Poisen" Mcgirt will do him wonders :patsch Mcgirt did great with Adamek, or Jeff Mayweather with Ibragimov..... The language barrier will hopefully prevent Buddy from having any real input or capability of ruining Dzinziruk with his bull****.

You may disagree with that style, but it gives a fighter a lot more options. If you're a southpaw going up agianst a southpaw, the typical high guard style that works well against conventional fighters will not work as expected.

Look at Mijares vs Darchinyan for instance. Mijares and Dzinziruk have similar styles, but Mijares was even more proven and higher ranked. He was PFP at that time.

But because of his inexperience with that type of southpaw fighter, a dynamic one that fights in that type of style he had huge problems.

Martinez will do the same thing. McGirt will actually give him a better chance and perhaps even make him competitive, but at this point it's too soon and unlikely.

Thats not an absolute given though mate...as there are a ton of examples of a more conventional and technically tighter stand up fighters beating awkward fluid and athletic types.

I think there is enough differences for the Mijares-Darchinyan comparison to fall over..I mean on there are some similarities there but Serhiy doesnt fight exactly like Mijares, he is physically different (even in a relative sense) and most importantly Martinez fights very differently to Darchinyan...I dont see him wading in very aggressively like Vic did nor do I think he hits as hard p4p and he isnt as left hand happy as Vic..which is what Mijares couldnt get away from.
If the left hand works for Serg, its probably going to take a few rounds to figure out..so I see him taking his more balanced approach using that beautiful right hook he has.
Dzinziruk is unproven against a guy like Martinez I do agree..but he may have had some experience against the cagey and fluid Cubans throughout his extensive amatuer career...You got to ask yourself though is Martinez all that proven against fighters of Dzinziruk's ilk?

The main thing here that I'm interested to see is how Martinez handles the fact Dzinziruk is faster and better defensively than Williams and Pavlik..whom he shut down because they were just to slow, predictable and wide open to be countered.

Don't get me wrong though..despite my arguing I'm not backing Serhiy to win, just to do better than people are saying. I will hedge my bets and put some $$$ on him because his odds are nice and wide..but I dont expect my money back.
