Too soon. As I just wrote elsewhere, Jones blocked the overwhelming majority of those shots green kept winging. It did look as if Jones legs buckled when he tried to move off the ropes, but he was obviously still protecting himself using his guard. Green couldn't keep that flury up forever so roy was gonna get a little break and then the ref would know whether jones would've been able to make it competitive.
There was a report from a commentator not long after the fight, that a fighter on the undercard had a chat to Jones 10-15 mins after the fight - and said that Jones was still out of sorts. I actually thought the fight couldve been stopped earlier, Jones legs were gone, he was done.. Green isnt the type of guy you let go to town on 40 yr old ATGs for the sake of it.
The stoppage was absolutely fine. A lot of the shots weren't landing cleanly, but Jones must have been badly hurt as there wasn't anything coming back in return..... he was just kinda stood there with his hands up. He was given more than adequate time to recover, couldn't do so, and was rightly stopped. I am trying to find the stoppage in the British Lightweight Title by the same referee, in the fight between John Murray and Jon Thaxton..... that was a bull**** stoppage. The Jones vs Green one was absolutely fine.
Definitely a good stoppage. His legs were gone, he was wobbling all over, wasn't clinching or punching back, just taking punishment. What more do you want?
Roy didn't threw a single punch after the KD while Green landed about 50. ... but you may also say that Green was already spent out and almost totally exhausted so Roy would KO him in the next 30 seconds.
Good stoppage, Jones was hurt and not firing back. Jones didn't have the legs to run around to survive, was like a sitting duck there. He was too hurt to use his reflexes or fight his way out of trouble. He needs to hang'em up for good, before he really gets hurt.
hmm says . . . fair... imagine if the fight continued the same way............ maybe one more round would've been nice to see how well RJJ recovers and to see if he can comeback, but the signs from round 1 weren't there.... fair...
Yeah, it was a little early - but Jones was headed to the canvas again if the ref didn't call it, so I doubt the outcome would have changed. Personally, I'm one who believes that fights should be allowed to go to their natural conclusion, but I can't cry too much about this stoppage. It was a little early, but it wouldn't have changed anything. I've seen MUCH worse.
Can't really argue it too much... Jones was hurt, and not fighting back. BUT,,, on the other hand, he WAS defending himself,,, and didn't seem to be getting hit with anything big just before the stoppage. If getting hit on the gloves and forearms was grounds for stopping a fight guys like Winky Wright and Arthur Abraham would have alot of loses on their records.
