Who, under 200lbs., has the best chance of beating Marciano?

Sub 200 pound Ali has little chance. Neither does Jones Jr.

Langford has a chance too, but I feel Marciano is a better fighter with a style that plays worse for Langford.

Prime Charles should get a mention considering what the 55 version did. Although strip that experience, and you lose something too so I'm not sure.

Same with a 49 Walcott considering what he did in 52.

Jack Johnson would get killed in the clinches. And this pre-200 pound one isn't a prime version. He can't out-muscle Marciano.

Everyone keeps saying Holyfield of CW but Holyfield at CW was more keen going to battle. And Marciano was much much better than Qawi. I don't feel this Holyfield has enough experience, nor can he sustain against a power-puncher like Marciano. He'll get broken down. This Holyfield doesn't clinch as much, and he's hittable.

Louis at 197 has the best chance to go 2/3.

I still think Tunney is the next best after that.

As others have said, you can get a prety darn good version of Joe Louis under 200lbs. Jack Dempsey is the other obvious choice.

Sam Langford would have to be acorded a good chance.

Jersey Joe Walcott came close enough to beating Marciano that you have to think that he would win if you replayed the fight a few times. Other slicksters such as Charles Tunney or Loughran have a chance by the same logic.

Harry Greb might be an interesting outside prospect.

Spinks! I like this one, Spinks is really underrated. I sometimes think that alot of people just remember the Tyson fight. I am old enough to have seen Spinks fight and the guy was great!! I agree that he would have a god shot to beat Rocky.

Have the radio call of the fight. My early post on the subject and score card.

Got my hands on the radio call by Don Dunpry.

Its almost complete, not all rounds are there, I think 3 or so rounds are missing, BUT it does give you a brief summary of the missing rounds.

I think the flow of the fight went something like this.

    1 Charles
    2 Charles
    3 Charles
    4 Charles
    5 Marciano
6 Marciano(Turning point of the fight.
    7 Marciano
    8 Charles
    9 Marciano
    10 Marciano
    11 Marciano
    12 about even
    13 Marciano
    14 Marciano and 15 Rocky.
It seem Charles started early. boxing, jabbing tieing Rocky up, and giving him a real boxing lesson. At the end of round 1, Rocky's nose was bloody. Charles than made the mistake of cutting Rocky in round 4. And it seem this told Rocky he needed to step up the pace, Marciano pressue and swarm in round 5. But the real turning point is 6, Marciano hurt, and daze Charles, and even Don was shock Charles didnt go down.
Marciano pressue Charles in round 7, putting on the pressue. And up his punch out put compare to the early rounds.
Charles had Marciano hurt and stun in round 8. Marciano wobble, close round, but Charles nit it because of hurting Rocky.
Marciano took charge in rounds 9 and ten, traping Charles on the ropes, and out punching Charles.
Round 11 was other big round for Rocky. Marciano hurt and wobble Charles, and it seem Rocky almost had a ko.
Round 12 was fought on even terms about.
Marciano cont to pressue and out punch Charles in 13 and 14, and relly up the pace in round 15.

It seem when Rocky got going Charles didnt keep up. Charles seem to have done most of the face damage of Marciano in the first 5 round, nose and eye. It was still a war though.

Walcott did come close, but some times I wonder would the score cards have change had Marciano not been blinded for about 5 rounds? Marciano was changing the tide in the 3rd, control the 4 and the 5, took round 6 on my card also. But Walcott took over once Marciano got blinded.

Dempsey, you have the entire radio call for the whole fight? My oh my I'd love to have that if you could somehow upload it to Youtube or send it to me. I have half the fight, which is about all the fights that on film. I think 8 rounds in there entirety with Dunphy's call.

Can you recheck the 8 rounds of Marciano Charles I? And count the rounds to be sure lol. I have 5.

Ah, gotcha. That's still pretty cool.

    I have.

    Round 1
Round 4 (Charles hurts Rocky briefly)
Round 6 (Great Rocky round, hurts Charles bad) Love Dunphy's call "Marciano who's unbridled fury!"
Round 10 (Another great Rocky round)
    Round 15

Okay, you're right. There must be only 5 rounds available. I thought I had about 7.

These are the rounds you have, right?

Got to say, Charles was very good at nullifying Marciano's left hook. Charles is absolute hanging on a thread in that last round. My heart always starts pounding when I see that final round. It's just mesmerizing stuff with crowd roaring and Dunphy's "Marciano's unbridled fury here in the 15th" with Marciano pounding away trying to stop Charles.

Round 6 was the changing tide of the fight, Marciano mostly took control of the fight after that, yeah he won round 5 also, but he hurt Charles in the 6th.

Would loved to see round 11, base on the call, Marciano almost got Charles out of there and you can hear the tone of Dundee's voice as Charles is wobbing around like a drunk or something.
