Okay, for once and for all:

Both Calzaghe and Hopkins are fighters who go out ALWAYS 100%, only health issues can cut down some percanteges of that, but they are not underestimating anyone. They performed at their best for their age which is good for beating Kessler, BHop and Pavlik.

Hopkins started great, showed why he is the bast techician in the last 25 years. Calzaghe finished great, showed why is his stamina is BY FAR the best of the elite fighters of the last 15 years. He also took away Hopkins' right hand so Nard started to missed a lot - then spoil - a guy who usually moves perfectly so you can't find him couldn't find the room for his shots. Stamina issues? NO. Calzaghe's got stamina issues: he's energy level is sick.

Both performed at their best for their age, that resulted in a competitive tactical, not- at-all beautiful fight. But very underrated performance for both. No one has ever made Calzaghe look foolish and no one ever was able to put a discouraged look on Hopkins face.

    Now eyes are opened.

calzaghe underperformed and still won.hopkins fought a good fight until he started to tire and complain of low blows in the later rounds.
hopkins is still a force to be reckoned with.he has been awesome in his last couple of fights so he should not retire yet.

neither underperformed. it was just a clash of styles. its as simple as that. both did what they fought they had too to win the fight. sometimes you have to fight an ugly fight to win.

Bernard had a very bad fight but still won in my opinion. Calzaghe did what he usually does but was continually made to miss and look foolish. I have to vote for Hopkins. Only his age made the fight close.

Still, like him or not you have to say Calzaghe pushed Hopkins a lot closer than Pavlik.

    No ****.

Hopkins only looked old because Joe made him look old. People claimed Calzaghe pressure was ineffective, but clearly not, as Hopkins ran out of steam badly.

He looked as fresh as a daisy against Pavlik.

I wouldn't really say either underperformed. Calzaghes pace was way too much for Hopkins who in turn had to resort to spoiling the fight to reduce the pace

Very well said. A fight between these 2 will never be pretty.

I agree with pretty much everything you wrote and specifically that the effect Calzaghe's level of activity/workrate had on making Hopkins tired is overstated. Didn't Roach say Hopkins was fit enough to fight at a very hight tempo and that it wasn't his fitness/stamina that let him down but lack of focus? Whether Calzaghe was mostly responsible for that lack of focus is debatable, but I think you make a convincing argument for the case that says Hopkins let it all slip out of his hand more or less himself. As to those who say neither underperformed at all, they must have watched a different fight altogether.
