He has trained a few guys since Tyson just none of them panned out. A lot of it has to do with his association with D'Amato who was essentially blackballed by the sport for the way he fought against the Mob. Rooney has also battled Alcohol and had several DUI's and was thought to be not reliable.
He suffered dementia last few years or so!

Rooney had been with Tyson since late 1982, when Tyson was 16 years old and just won the National Junior Olympics (having a 9–1 amateur record, with all 9 wins inside the distance), oversaw the second half of his amateur career (44 fights), saw the start of his professional career in 1985, followed Tyson throughout his world championship days, until Tyson's bout with Michael Spinks in 1988, when on the insistence of Don King, Tyson fired Rooney along with all other staff that comprised the Team Tyson from the beginning. In the words of sportswriter Jack Newfield, "the day Tyson fired Kevin Rooney there was a cap put on Mike Tyson's development as a fighter, he did not develop anymore behind that day."

During this period, Tyson's problems outside the ring were also starting to emerge. His marriage to Robin Givens was heading for divorce, and his future contract was being fought over by Don King and Bill Cayton. In late 1988, Tyson parted with manager Bill Cayton and fired longtime trainer Kevin Rooney, the man many credit for honing Tyson's craft after the death of D'Amato. Following Rooney's departure, critics alleged that Tyson began to show less head movement and combination punching. In 1989, Tyson had only two fights amid personal turmoil. He faced the British boxer Frank Bruno in February. Bruno managed to stun Tyson at the end of the first round, although Tyson went on to knock Bruno out in the fifth round. Tyson then knocked out Carl "The Truth" Williams in the first round in July.

Nope according to wiki because they say different!
MIKE TYSON, in lengthy testimony in his former trainer's lawsuit against the heavyweight champion, yesterday denied ever offering KEVIN ROONEY a career-long contract. Tyson said he fired Rooney after the trainer's comments about Tyson's former wife, ROBIN GIVENS, during a television interview.

I'm coming down strongly on picking Tyson as the better combo puncher . Tyson produced high quality combo's over years and Douglas produced them only once against Tyson and that was a Tyson who was not prepared properly.

Mate everyone that knows anything about boxing in the 80`s knows that the Spinks fight was Tyson`s last fight with Rooney, how old are you and why I you bothering to argue? Do you want me to start a thread on this subject and make you a laughing stock?

Which trainer? Rooney trained Tyson when he fought Berbick and Giachetti trained Mike when he fought Stewart.

You think the fact that he had to drop 20 pounds in a few weeks as a heavyweight is an indication that he was well prepared?

Larry Holmes said Ali used to do that often in his training camps durinfg the late 70`s, he would only train for the last two weeks of training camp.

Probably because he was incapable of training at all without being heavily medicated
