In my book you have to give the edge to John Ruiz. I think he was a better Heavy Weight Champion than Nicolay Valuev. What do you fellows think?

Valuev was perhaps the worst beltholder in the HW division of the last 20 years. Hell even Briggs was better than that (a bit at least). Ruiz was a bad belt holder but a bit better than Valuev. ...but honestlay we are comparing cancer to HIV...

They are like The Larry Bird and Magic Johnson of boxing.....

    They need each other....

They are like two parts of the same brain...

So similar the way they dominated the ranks and competed against each other..

People will be talking about them for next hundred years.

They are made to bring out the greatness in each other... Without each other each would dominate the sport in Michael Jordan or Gretzky type fashion..

For every Ali there is a Frazier.

For every Leonard there is a Hearns.

For every Ruiz there is a Valuev.

I bet if they fought 100 more times.... each fight would still be razor thin close.

Let me guess. You're trying to make Ruiz into something little less shitty then he is so when Haye beats him you're act like Haye did something good???

:yepNice try. Ruiz sucks. If Haye beats him it don't mean jack.

As champions both where pretty average.

But Ruiz has a much better and underated resume.

It's chosing between 2 of the worst 'champs' in the division's history but I'll go for Valuev. Because of his size, weight and at least trying to fight, I can understand why a few contenders have trouble with a guy like that, but he lacks skill and has surprisely little power for such a huge man. And Ruiz is just Ruiz... spoiling his way into undiserved victories not obaying the rules one bit... The guy has some skill, but he became champion just because referees somehow let him clinch, spoil and hug without penalising him for it.
And of course both have the rediculous WBA to back them up in their titleshots.

But let's be fair here... The question is not Who was a better Champion, but Who was the less bad Champion.
Haye has a blast with opponents like this!

    Ruiz:
    Holyfield
    Kirk Johnson
    Rahman
    Oquendo
    Golota (gift decision)

    Valuev:
Ruiz x2 (first was a robbery)
    Beck
    Barrett
    McCline
    Holyfield (a robbery)

Ruiz although far from a great champion was far better than Valuev.

    lol

If I had to pick I'd have to say Ruiz, but that's not saying much. Being the better champion between out of these two is like being the smartest kid in the short bus.

Ruiz because he has beaten far better competition asnd been in with better fighters. Many don't like his style but you can't argue with wins over Holyfield, Rahman, Oquendo, Golota and Johnson. If he were THAT **** he'd have come a cropper more often. He's also been in with Toney, Jones, Tua and Chagaev - not too shabby.

i voted Valuev because he brings far more fans to the sport (or sells more tickets). Ruiz is boring, at least Valuev brings the entertainment factor for casual fans, Ruiz scares them away.
