Who was best: Shavers, Lyle, or Young?

Young beat Lyle, drew with Shavers in their rematch (I thought Young won), lost a disputed decision to Ali, beat Foremasn, lost a split-decision to Norton that could have went either way.

 

All 3 Fighters ,

Were nothing more then 3,
"contenders'.
Shavers, 1 limited puncher, with stamina and chin problems .
Lyle, a limited slugger.
Young, 1 powderpuff "cutie" with,
little to no aggression.

 

Probably Earnie by a hair. Real close, but Earnie, in my opinion, did beat Ali, but probably fell under the Ali mystique.

 

Young was horribly inconsistent but he has better wins than either of them in his short prime.

 

I would have to go with Young on this.

Better results vs the field, and not enough in his results vs the other two to undermine that.

 

Actually it is the worst list possible

 

Lyle was better overall to me. First of all he bombed out shavers in brutal fashion, he was in the ring ready to fight a war, young was not consistent, he fought always sumise defensive mode and it was effective just if you could not catch him.(tyson would have stopped him in 1-2 rounds)
Lyle was more complete to me, he could brawl,box.. His problem is that he fought in the same way that his rival.( he boxed with boxers,traded with punchers )

 

Young.

He was the most skilled of the three. Also, he arguably got robbed in the Ali and Norton title fights. He's the only one of the three that that should have been a world champion.

 

Young. Prime version is a cut above. If there'd been a third Young-Shavers bout circa 1975-77,Jimmy would have won clearly on points.

 

Well.. Shavers did not beat ali but you could argue that young did against a better version

 

Young. Beat Foreman, a better win than anything Lyle or Shavers managed. Beat Lyle, which Shavers couldn't do. Was more deserving of the W against Ali than Shavers was, handled Lyle twice and while he was KO'd by Shavers as a neophyte, he probably should have got the nod in their rematch.

 

Young is the worst of the bunch.

 

Young is the best easily. Shavers is the worst.

 

Young was obviously on a higher level than Lyle,...and if a 3rd Shavers fight had been made, Young would have outclassed Earnie on a par with how he did Lyle (both times)..Young had the better chin, unsurpassed defensive genius, beat Ali, who beat Lyle and Shavers,....and beat Foreman, who crushed Lyle, shootout or no, and I have no doubt that prime George would have done likewise to Shavers. Jimmy Young was head and shoulders over his heavyweight contemporaries Lyle and Shavers, as well as many others as well.
