The confusing part is when you add Quarry and Bugner to the list. Where exactly do they fit in?

It's true that Quarry beat an up and coming Lyle by decision but I think Lyle improved after this fight.

Quarry also beat Shavers by 1st round KO, Lyle stopped Shavers in the 6th round.

Shavers stopped Young in the 3rd round of their first fight, Young improved, they fought to a draw in their rematch.

Young beat Lyle by decision twice.

Bugner lost a close decision to Lyle and was stopped on cuts by Shavers in round 2.

Ali stopped Quarry KO3 and KO7. He stopped Lyle KO11. He decisioned Bugner twice. He won close decisions over Young and Shavers.

Frazier stopped Quarry KO7 and KO5 and he decisioned Bugner.

So, where do Quarry and Bugner fit? How about this?

    1. Young
    2. Quarry
    3. Lyle
    4. Shavers
    5. Bugner

I get down on my knees and again beg of the universe: has anyone actually SEEN Shavers-Young II??? I've yet to find anyone who saw that fight, yet it has become very standard to go around saying that Young won it, based on some article in a Philadelphia --Jimmy's home town-- newspaper.

We all know that, but in your estimation,...a guy in just his 11th pro bout didn't improve at all? Do you think that maybe Young progressed a bit from that 11th fight at all?

If we are going to use youngs first fight with shavers as a measuring stick (fought when young used a completely different style) then shavers was really no better than ron stander and dhouldnt even be on this list. Tit for tat.

Nah he didn't improve at all. He's a **** journey man and doesn't even deserve mention alongside Lyle and Shavers.

Relax I'm trolling. Been years since I posted seriously about Young or Jersey Joe.

He fought shavers to a draw in the rematch and left a lot of people thinking he won.. He beat Ron Lyle twice whom shavers lost to. He beat George foreman who was a better win than any Lyle or shavers ever had. He was stopped on fewer occasions than either of them as well. Something had to change since that 11th bout.. It should go without saying to anyone who watched a lot of these guys fight and have broken down their records that earnie shavers was one of the weaker contenders of his era.
