Pea needs to be in this convo. While I've agreed Roy >= and have them both Top 20, Roy did some fine work from 2000-03. Pea still took the 90s for me, and I won't change on that.
Whitaker is greater than both and it wasn't until Roy and Oscar did nice work in the 2000's that they came close to sniffing the conversation with Pea alongside more "modern" types. You have to give him the W over Chavez too. He really only got licked by Oskee and that was at welter :deal
Should've been a draw at worst. :deal Pea had not been looking good against Hurtado and Rivera prior to that fight, but he summed up whatever he had left. Oscar was an elite fighter ready to hit his prime if he wasn't already (I thought he was killer at 140).
Chavez De La Hoya (Leave that door open!) McGirt (x2) Vasquez Nelson Pineda Paez Pendleton Nazario Hell yeah.
Trinidad Whitaker (leave it open!) Quartey Chavez Leija Hernandez Gonzales Ruelas Carr ---------------- Toney Hopkins Hill Griffen Johnson McCallum Harding Cases can be made :deal
Well, when you have two of the five best fighters of all-time doing work in the same decade, there will always be a case. :yep
:yep That said, I do prefer Pea's dominance when he was clearly at power and size deficits in most if not all fights. :deal
That's why I rate the Vasquez win higher than most people. He probably didn't even belong in there, and the guy was a proven champion at the weight. Actually rated #1 at the time of the fight with Norris ****ing off. More impressive to do that 19 lbs up from his optimum weight than beat a 135 lb Nelson, though Azumah's higher standing and the way he thoroughly dominated him makes it fairly close.
Nah wasnt supposed to prove anything, I saw it asked elsewhere and instantly thought of you. No homo.
