I'll vote Foreman he was bad as hell before he lost to Ali in Zaire. But really it comes down to a matter of opinion. I was born in 1980 and the Tyson craze was big even in elementary school.

Their early careers were pretty much the same except Foreman was beat by top 3 ATG Ali and Tyson by Buster Douglas. This reason is more than enough for me to pick Foreman

Tyson was physically and technically unstoppable in his prime.

every fighter has an off night . . . mikes life was falling apart at that time (not everyone can be as focused as pbf)

When I think Prime I think when they at their highest point. For me that was Foreman's destruction of Smokin Joe. Joe was a prime top ten ATG heavy and George had him running for his life!

So to answer your question I would have to say Big George.

Its to bad that both guys fell apart mentally far to early. Big George after the loss to Ali and Tyson's with the death of Cus. Both are very smart men but had troubled souls (Big George in his first run)

Tyson. He was a complete boxer. offence, defence, power in both hands, technique, heart, iron chin, killer instinct.. I can't think of anything he lacked as a boxer

Tyson was a monster for 3-4 years. Unfortunately, Cus died and King stepped in and combined with Tyson's imaturity and mental issues destroyed Tyson as a fighter.

Tyson. Easily. Tyson is so much more skilled it's ridiculous. His defense is a million times better, his combinaiton punching blows George's offense out of the water, his athleticism and speed is so far past what George was capable...Tyson. A million times over.

    This.

Foreman was a huge puncher, no question. And, much like Tyson, he intimidated his opponents before they even entered the ring, which made for easy work.

But Foreman was by no means a great boxer. He wasn't fast, he didn't have a strong defense, he didn't have great technique and he pushed so much he might have been disqualified if he had the guy in charge of Khan-Peterson for a ref. His combinations generally consisted of right hook-left hook. And his stamina was lacking.

Mainly, he was just an incredibly tough guy with a monstrous punch.

Mike hit nearly as hard, was MUCH faster, sharper, had better defense, had better footwork, punched in lethal combinations, and had underrated stamina in his prime. He couldn't have been rope-a-doped. Mike knew how to win a decision when his power wasn't doing the trick.

Mike's achilles heel, and the thing that did him in was his total lack of discipline. He didn't so much exit his physical prime as much as he exited his mental prime. The ref could have counted Douglas out when he was down and it still would have been plain to see that "Prime" Mike was gone. He was gone the previous fight, actually.

There's no argument that Foreman fought in a better era, and therefore has better names on his resume, but in terms of who was BETTER prime-for-prime? For me, there's no question it's Mike Tyson.

yeah forgot to mention speed & accuracy for a hw.. actually for any weight class. serious, I could go on and on.

I would like to see Ali try rope a dope on Tyson.

people that rate Foreman more is due to resume but if you look at skillsets, blows him outta the water.

Prime ALi was better than Douglas.
    No need for the ropes.
67 ALi defeats all. Similar to Liston 1. Except 67 Ali hit harder then.
