My point was Roy won his first light heavyweight title in 96 the same year when Maske retired after losing to Hill. Maske retired early and I believe still had some good years left. His style and amauter pedigree would have been an interesting match for Roy. I know Toney didn't accomplish much at 175 but I would have liked to have seen Maske and him match up. Two master boxers with really differant styles-- unfortunately the timing just wasn't there for these fight to happen.

But Maske announced it around a half year previous and really accumulated Jones in 1997, with the full title, in Light-Heavyweight.
Though he was just in his early thirties with 31 professional bouts, on the other hand he a long amateur career behind him. Michalczewsky wanted to get him out of retirement and in the ring with him, after his Hill fight.

Toney didn't deserve a shot there and it is questionable if he would be competititve. He lost twice against Griffin and even vs. gatekeeper/ second tier boxer Thadzi and is a lot shorter than Maske.

To me, it was a fair points win by Hill. There was no controversy over the decision except perhaps in Germany.
Maske best wins were against Williams and Rockigiani.

These are better than any of Hills, but he defeated also Ariel Hernandez, Sven Ottke and Michael Timm (several times) among others, just as dominated he Iran Barkley, Duran Williams was number 1 in the world ranking and undefeated, Corn was nont bad too.

    Rocchiginai beat Maske twice.
    Tiozzo wasn't very good.
Hill had a good jab and movement, and he and Maske looked to have drew.

Have you ever watched them boxing? Rocchigiani won only two rounds in the second fight and admited many times, that he was Sounds beaten in it and this time clear (likely his most comfortable defeat).

Well it could have gone either way and a draw would have been perhaps fair, but the acting of the Afro-American WBA-referee was biased in favour of his homie (never complained about going with the head inside, but only about Maske leading his arme over him, to protect headbutts) and the first 4 rounds can be scored different (seperated to each).

Magi,Magdaleno,Williams,Scully, were journeymen who had no business challenging for titles.
Ariel Hernandez how many professional fights did he have?

Look I think Hill edges him as far as resume, but it is certainly not not a landslide. One has to consider that Hill beat Maske and even though that fight was a close, it was a fair points win for Hill. Maske was just too inactive at the beginning of the fight in my view. A draw would not have been outrageous bu that is not the official result and rightly so in my opinion.

Now, what Hill has going against him is his loss against the Tiger. That was a very disappointing performance by Hill and I suspect Hill was not 100% for that fight. I am sure Maske would have beaten the TIger on points.

Maggi challenger das years later the Tiger too, Scully fought Hill before later Rocchigiani a long others and is a underachieve (better than his record with some good names in it), Williams was undefeated and it was a mandatory defence, as he was number 1 in Light-Heavyweight in 1996 (the winner of Maske vs. Rocchigianni II was supposed and obligaten to face him), maybe comparable with Mark Prince and Eric Harding, better than David Telesco and Crawford Ashley (or Eddy Smulders and Ole Klementsen), so top 20 of the decade was Duran Williams for me (only a little bit behind William Guthrie).

What does it matter? Somebody here mentioned him as one of the greatest Cuban boxers of all time pound for pound, if not the best. It was a very important bout, as the final of the Olympic Games and revenge for the world championship final of 1987.

I didn't claim it, but he defeated Ottke twice and Timm (who was probably only professional trainer) even more often. He also won several times against Karsten Röwer (maybe Michael Moorer too).

You want to count amateur fights to bolster up a very weak professional resume.
Maske fought a lot of patsies unranked by other organizations and he did it in the security of his own back yard.Williams is his only top name.
