Many Canelo fans claim Canelo was still a kid when he got beat by Mayweather, Floyd has said he was past his prime when he beat Canelo as he was 36. Who was closer to their respective primes at the time of the fight.

    Canelo: Age 23, record 42-0

    Floyd: Age 36, record 44-0

Interesting. The way the media spun the story was that Saul had no biz in the ring with Mayweather.

Mayweather because of his safety-first ultra-defensive style, took very little punishment in his career. And he took a few years off in 2007 to avoid the good welterweights (Margarito, prime Cotto, still very good Mosley, and Williams) that he was frightened of. So he was still pretty much in his prime when he fought Canelo.

Canelo had quite a few fights, but he had relatively few amateur fights and was learning boxing in the pros. He didn't reach his prime for a couple of more years.

Id say that Mayweather was probably closer to his best form than Canelo was... but not by much and, overall, negligibly so.

Its not like the fight was close where you could see one guy winning it if he was just a little better. Was fairly easy work for the past prime Mayweather.

Floyd was 36. I rather be 23 in a boxing match than 36. That was a passing of the torch fight but pbf 2as too good.

    As far as age, 23 is a male's athletic prime, 36 isn't.
Experience can help you compensate when you are past prime.
Canelo was in his physical prime and is bigger. Though it gets complicated because mayweather drained him.
Few people like mayweather because he's clearly a scumbag, but so is canelo.
I would say that mayweather managed to diminish canelo somewhat with the drain and then used his experience to help.
    Physically canelo had the advantage.

Canelo all the way. Floyd was already past his prime but still had great reflexes.

Yeah this is a pretty good assessment. No doubt it was a good win for Floyd but it was not a level playing field Canelo was compromised at 152 pounds.

Floyd’s absolute peak was, imo, against Gatti in 2005. Canelo’s peak was, imo, against Kirkland in 2015. This fight took place in 2013 so Canelo was much closer to his prime than Floyd was in my eyes.

He went to that defensive style when he moved up 147 he started at 130 and he wasn’t a defensive fighter at that weight people seem to forget that for some reason.

Floyd's prime in my opinion was 2001-2005. Canelo's prime was 2018-2021. The fight was in 2013. You do the math.

Mayweather's best weightclass was Super Featherweight he was fighting Canelo at his worst weightclass aswell as being on the wrong side of 30.

Canelo was closer to his prime than Mayweather.

It’s clear that Canelo an 8 year professional boxer and undefeated world champion was at his peak.
