In my opinion i believe Willie Pep is a great counter puncher, he slips a straight forward punch for any openings, when his opponent try to brawl, he avoid them by blocking, clinchign, and straight bob-and-weave defense. Willie Pep has great lateral movements and great coordination of jabs and hooks. His combinations comes from a reflex, which Willie Pep in my opinion has the best reflex of all time. While I consider myself a fan of Floyd Mayweather's accurate punching, Willie Pep has better timing and his counter attacks are more mobile and deadly. Willie Pep uses an upright stance against a brawler to counter punch, but against a swarmer, he can use both a semi or full crouch, and swarmers have very difficulty landing any meaningful shots at Pep. Pep's short hooks, cross counters, and jabs are timely precised to hit the opponent at his most vulnerable stage. Pep is a brilliant defensive specialist in making opponents miss shots and ensuring that no meaningful shot is landed. His footwork makes fightes impossible to clinch him, and when his opponent is an attack mode, he pulsl away with a semi guard offense and can even fight at a southpaw style but is also deadly in his overhand right. Willie Pep has grat cover up, his cross armed crab defense is impenetrable. Thee is no doubt in my mind that Willie Pep is the greatest defensive boxer of all time.
I respect your choice...personally I find it a three way tie between Pep, Whitaker and Nicolino Locche...who was every bit as good as them..each had their own unique style and all three when at their best were virtually unhittable.
