Well, it’s hard to say as their punch selection and style was so different but with the film we have I cannot say.

Floyd Patterson does have the better speed but Muhammad Ali in the 1960's had better footwork. Even Floyd acknowledged that he had trouble with Ali's footwork in 1965, during the radio broadcast of the third Ali vs Norton in 1976.

    Hands: Patterson.
    Feet: Ali.
    (IMHO of course.)

    This

But the difference between Ali's foot speed over Patterson versus Patterson's hand speed over Ali's is greater ... So overall Ali is faster

Hands - Both men's were extremely fast with the edge going to Floyd.
    Feet - Muhammad easily.

There's different types of speed, and I think these two are close enough to where one is better in different aspects of speed. In terms of getting a punch from A to B, Patterson is the quickest heavyweight I've ever seen. He's also probably the quickest at putting combinations together. Whereas Ali's feet and reflexes were quicker than Patterson's IMO. So was his jab. I'd say Ali is quicker in more aspects, and is closer in the aspects he's slower in.

Roy didn`t have faster hands than Floyd and his reflexes swere slower at heavyweight, he got caught a number of times by the slow fisted Ruiz.
