So how about you writing off Joe's chances then dream boy?We all have an opinion of who will win any hypothetical match,so you could argue we are always writing somebody off.
Benn was no demi-god either, and his mortality was proved more often and easily than Joe's ever was.
I dont think Joe would have even struggled with Mclellan and would 'smash Benn to bits'.

I think Calzaghe would have a very good chance of beating Benn.

But, If people like Rick Thornberry can go the distance with the boxing god that is Joe Calzaghe, i don't see how anyone can suggest that Benn has no chance, or that Calzaghe is so far above Benn, that the mere suggestion of a Benn victory is deserving of scorn.

If a shot Roy Jones and a moderate punching former Middleweight champion who hasn't stopped anyone in close to a decade other then De La Hoya could have him over, as could Kabery Salem and Byron Mitchell. What would happen if Benn hit him? I'm a Calzaghe fan but some of the Calzaghe fans on here border on been dellusional. Benn Calzaghe prime vs prime is 50-50. Benn would not have lost to one of Calzaghe's opponents at the time he fought them, if he was in his prime.

Fair enough. Its wrong to right either guy off.:good
Worth noting though that they would both be mentally up for this,so no plodding performance from either fighter.Be a good one prime for prime.

Benn was a brawler with not the best chin or stamina...and he was stopped by Eubank and Watson IN HIS PRIME. Also wobbled several times and knocked down by the likes of Barkley... So lets NOT JUST reminisce about every time Calzaghe was decked.

When Calzaghe was past his prime vs Jones and Hopkins he got dropped in the first......When Benn was past prime he LOST to Malinga and Collinsx2.

No way in hell Benn would have beat the Hopkins Calzaghe fought...he might even have been stopped vs Kessler and Lacy.

Whilst many - possibly the majority - would fancy Calzaghe to beat Benn, it would be wise to remember that "The Dark Destroyer" was always at his best, or rather most dangerous, when his back was against the wall and he was the underdog.
Whether he would have beaten Joe or not we will never know, but it would be very foolish to dismiss his chances completely. If Hopkins, Jones, Salem and Mitchell could floor Calzaghe then don't think for a second that Nigel Benn couldn't - and Benn was a lethal finisher. I doubt Benn would let Joe of the hook if he nailed him.

Calzaghe was possibly better but Benn wins the popularity vote hands down!

H2H I think Benn (at his peak) would have been very dangerous for the first 6/7 rounds but after that Joe would have finished him sometime around the 9/10 round.

The big difference between these two is that Benn ducked nobody and that's why he has losses on his record. Calzaghe ducked fights he thought he might lose and had opponents carefully "selected" for him to maintain the unbeaten run.

Knocked down by the likes of Barkley ...... A 3 weight world champion. A man who went on to win world titles after Benn blew him away in one round. You can't mean that Barkley as he did not put Benn down.

JC would not have had any trouble with McClellan ? based on what ? McClellan had incredible power and a nice straight right hand. JC was there to be hit.

Charlie Brewer had a worse chin than Benn and JC couldn't even wobble him.

An old old post Watson Eubank, gave JC his hardest fight Benn lost a thriller and beat a prime Chris in the rematch regardless what the judges say.

JC had a good career, he was promoted and managed incredibly well.

Who did Joe beat that Benn could not have beaten ?

Benn would paint calzaghe. The quality of fighters then was much better; Benn, Eubank McClellan, Watson, the list goes on.

Its you thats clearly dreaming with that calzaghe would be 'smashed to pieces'. Your a certified calzaghe hater so your opinion means little to nothing. Im a fan of both and i certainly agree with the statement that benn could never be written off--AGAINTS ANYONE. Ofcourse benn could have beaten calzaghe...but the likelyhood if that fight have taken place would be a UD for calzaghe. It would be almost stupid to ever bet againts benn though

:huhYou just quoted him saying exactly what you said but favouring Calzaghe. Yet you say he's dreaming? Where's he said Benn would smash Calzaghe to pieces. What is it with my fellow Calzaghe supporters and their inability to argue effectively using evidence of magical performances instead of the so-so unbeaten record? Points to poor boxing knowlege if you ask me. Just because you read Frank Warrens column in the Sun once a week and occasionally flick onto ITV4 doesn't make your opinion anymore valid then Bob down the pub who still thinks Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson are world champions.
