How appropriate Best post war Brit in any weight class? Slappy Joe? You must be ****ing joking, he was an opportunist **** that only fought 2 decent fighters in his whole career and will be remembered for losing to a 42 year old Hopkins and getting flattened in the 1st by 40 year old Jones that was more shot than JFK. Slappys career is all smoke and mirrors. He's probably going to be remembered as being better than Benn but those of us that lived through those years and actually watched will know that Benn took risks that Slappy Joe would never have taken, he was a con-man whereas Benn was a warrior.
Its REALLY simple. BENN himself said that Calzaghe is a better fighter and would have dominated if he had been in their era. End of story.
Ridiculous. Benn was far better schooled. Much better defensively. I'm sick of repeating this. Calzaghe was bigger & the more naturally gifted of the two - speed of hand & especially foot, chin, stamina.
Definitely Benn overall. Calz did a couple things better but Benn would have most likely KOd Joe (as dozens of fighters throughout history would have if Joe had met any of them in their primes).
Benn never said that. He just said Calzaghe could have beaten him, Watson and Eubank and never spoke about RJJ, Toney, Nunn, DM, Mcclean and Mccallum. Benn is a nice guy and was acknowledging Calzaghes talent but I personally see a prime Benn KTFO of Calzaghe.
Joe never faced a puncher of Benns calibre (he would have done if he faced Jones earlier) Benn by KO if Joe gets aggresive, but if Joe keeps his cool and doesnt engage I see him getting of the floor and winning an SD.
Calzaghe obviously, not saying benn wasn't great because he was one of my fav fighters ever. Joe was a level above imo, nd had they of fought prime for prime i think joe would of done what he always did and found a way to win. Which is no shame on benn
