Unmotivated Duran? In that case, Nunn was unmotivated, just because I said so. What, any time Duran lost it was due to not being motivated?

Palomino was a much better win, and it was a clear win as well.

Cervantes was closer to his prime, and McCallum arguably won one of the fights with Toney. Also, Benitez was 17 YEARS OLD!

Toney has embarassing losses and performances, and got throughly outclassed by the best fighter he faced. Benitez/Leonard was a pretty close fight, and the stoppage in their fight was questionable to me, it was no knockout, that's for sure.

When past his prime he did, not during or around it like Toney, who endured losses to B and C level fighters such as Dave Tiberi(blatant robbery) and Drake Thadzi.

Toney's longevity certainly outdoes Benitez's, there's no arguing that. The argument is whether he did enough to overcome what Benitez did early. I am not so sure.

Illmatic, why do you hate Toney so much?. You're there tearing Toney apart in every single thread relating to him. I understand not liking him because coming in out of shape and not training 100% is disrespectful to the sport, but you should still give him credit sometimes when it comes to his abilities and accomplishments.

I admit I dislike him a bit, I think b/c of his racist comments to Peter before their matches, but I just think he's overrated in general. He has great defense, has great skills, but it hasn't translated into a career of brilliance. He has a ten yr period when he did nothing, had a phenomenal performance against Jirov, and then reverted to not doing anything. A fighter can talk, but only if puts together the performances to prove it.

Alright, I thought it had something to do with Toney's big mouth. I still can't understand how you can score that first fight for Peter, but oh well. Toney's trash talk never bothered me and I've always liked him, but he has been dissappointing as hell. I paid for 60 dollar tickets when he fought Batchelder and he stunk up the joint with a shitty, effortless performance. If he comes back this year, you might have a very happy 2008 when Toney gets stopped by some B level opponent. He's shot.

sorry to hear that. Is the peter-toney fight on youtube? ill sit through it and score it. I heard everyone on here saying how toney was robbed, then i watched the fight and had no idea what the hell they were talking about. Same thing with Taylor-Wright as well.

It wasn't too bad. There are never any fights in the bay area anyways. The post-fight was more exciting than the actual fight. Toney started arguing with someone in the audience who was telling him that he should retire and not screw over the fans. Freddy Roach was there looking very dissappointed in Toney.

The Peter fight shouldn't be hard to find on the net. I just did a quick search and here's one download link: http://www.sexuploader.com/?d=EL5U6NCQ. .NSV files can only be played in winamp though. I really couldn't see how Peter could even get a draw in that fight, but I haven't watched it in a year or so.

I think it would be fair to take into consideration that a 17 year old shouldn't have been able to beat even a past his prime Cervantes. As for Duran, he fought on and won two more titles and fought respectably against Hagler after his bout with Benitez as well. Hell, Benitez, even in losing to Leonard was able to make Sugar Ray miss more punches than at any time in his prime. I still say Benitez, at his best would have his radar working all night against Toney.

toney should be winning this poll, far greater longevity and a deeper resume in general.
