Gomez far eclipses Hamed as a fighter...and though a tad behind him as a puncher...one shot power, it isn't even worth considering.

I don't even think Gomez was inferior as a puncher .. Gomez fought far better fighters and Naz was all hype.

I think Gomez was the greater all-around fighter. However, if Gomez and Hamed faced each other at featherweight, I'd take Hamed by stoppage.

I was a kid when Gomez went on his tear through the Super Bantamweight division. What was incredibly shocking at the time was how moving up just FOUR POUNDS - from 122 to 126 - changed everything for Wilfredo. Throw out the Sanchez fight. Gomez still wasn't nearly as good at featherweight as he was at Super Bantamweight. Not even close.

Gomez was the most ferocious fighter in boxing at Super Bantamweight. At featherweight, he was just another paper champ. It was crazy and really unexplainable. I haven't seen anything like it since.

Hamed would've beaten him up at featherweight.

Wilfredo Gomez was a far better all-around fighter and had more boxing skills than Naseem Hamed. They may have been equal when it came to punching power.

I can't think of ANY fighter who was ever off-balance more often than the Prince.

And you don't need a "trained" eye to have seen the counter from Kelley which dropped him because he was off-balance.

    :huh

Are you saying he WASN'T knocked on his backside by a counter by Kevin Kelley while off-balance? Are you literally saying your "credentials" can change history?

I'm British and a Naseem fan. But solid effort anyway.

I assume being a pompous bore does not disqualify one from being a Nigerian olympic talent scout.

You said, and I quote, "He was always in both a defensive and offensive position to land crisp power-punching combinations without being knocked down by counters."

    Your backtrack is respectfully accepted.

Oh dear, the fellow who said I don't know anything about boxing because I am "probably Cuban or hispanic Puerto Rican" can dish out racism but doesn't like being called pompous.

This thread is very entertaining, but also very cruel. I almost feel ashamed for finding it amusing.
